MARRIED

 

A few days ago, in Dublin the Rev. and Hon. John HEWITT, rector of St. Mark's, Dean of Cloyne, and son to the Rt. Hon. the Lord Chancellor of Ireland, to Miss Jane MOORE of Dorset-street.

[The marriage was reported in Saunders's News-Letter of 26 Aug 1779, as having happened a few days ago. The bride was Jane MOORE, second daughter of Dr. MOORE, of Dorset-street.]

 

A few days ago, at Kirkbampton in this county (by the Rev. Mr. BURN) Mr. John ROOK of Akehead to Miss Peggy BARNES of Little Bampton.

[According to the Calendar of Carlisle Marriage Licence Bonds, the Licence was granted on 14 Aug 1779. The groom was of Akehead in the parish of Wigton, yeoman.]

 

Same place, Capt. William LIDDELL, jun. to Miss Jane STORDY, both of Kirk Bampton.

[According to the Calendar of Carlisle Marriage Licence Bonds, the Licence was granted on 26 Aug 1779. The groom was William LIDDELL of Kirkbampton, yeoman.]

 

Last week at Ulverstone, Mr. William POSTLETHWAITE to Miss WOODBURN, both of that place.

[According to the Marriage Licence Bond, the groom was an Ironmonger, aged 21, and the bride was Theadosia WOODBURN, Spinster, aged 19, both of Ulverston; according to Lancashire OPC, they married on 30 Aug 1779 at St. Mary, Ulverston.]

 

DIED

 

Friday last, at Parton, near this town, Mr. Caleb FELL, many years a master in the coal-trade.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, he was buried on 06 Sep 1779 at Moresby.]

 

Tuesday last, at Ulverstone in the 20th year of his age, (after a very short sickness) Mr. Miles FOSTER, surgeon, son of Mr. Dodgon FOSTER, Lancaster; at so early a period he discovered a genius which, with his application, promised at some future time to make him a shining ornament of his profession. His learning, in every branch of useful knowledge, was far beyond his years, and, joined with a most engaging affability of manners. made him at once the admiration and delight of all who knew him. Thus attached to his relations, his early death must prove a severe affliction, and is generally lamented by all his acquaintances.

[According to the Quaker Register, Myles FOSTER of Ulverstone, Son of Dodgson FOSTER of Lancaster, aged 20, died 25 Aug 1779 and was buried on 27 Aug 1779 in Friends Burying Ground at Swarthmoor.]

 

Wednesday last in Cross-street, Mrs. WATTS, wife of Mr. William WATTS, ironmonger.

 

At Carlisle, aged 72, Mr. David LATTIMORE, late of Annis Well, near that city.

[According to FamilySearch, David LATIMER, aged 72, was buried on 27 Aug 1779 at St. Mary, Carlisle.]

 

Last week, at Aspatria, in this county, Mr. George BLAKE, greatly respected by his acquaintances.
