MARRIED.

 

Last week at Topcliff, Yorkshire, Mr. J. PICKERSGILL, (one of the proprietors of the Manchester and Leeds Waggon) to Miss BORROWBY of Dishforth.

[According to FamilySearch, John PICKERSGILL and Mary BARROWBY married on 16 Oct 1777 at Topcliffe, Yorkshire.]

 

Yesterday se'ennight, at Gosforth, the Rev. Mr. DOCKWRAY, master of the parish school of Gosforth, to Miss Ann PARKIN of Park Nook, an agreeable young lady, with a handsome fortune.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Rev. Richard DOCKWRAY of Wasdalehead and Ann PARKER of Gosforth married on 20 Oct 1777 at Gosforth.]

 

The 16th inst. at Loweswater, the Rev. Mr. ION, curate of Budwick, Yorkshire, to Miss Nancy FISHER of Coldkeld, an accomplished lady with a fortune of 1000 l.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, George ION and Ann FISHER married at Lorton (not at Loweswater). According to the marriage bond, he was of Bubwith, Yorkshire.]

 

Monday last at Workington, Mr. John CLARKE, an eminent shoe-maker in Penrith, to Mrs. Ann WILSON, widow of the late Mr. Ed. WILSON of Workington.

[According to the Marriage Bond, the groom's surname was CLARK, and the bride was aged 30. According to FamilySearch, they married on 20 Oct 1777 at Workington.]

 

Some days ago, Mr. Oliver USSENTON, baker in King-street, to Miss Nancy GLAISTER.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Oliver USSINSON and Ann GLAISTER married on 13 Oct 1777 at St. Nicholas, Whitehaven.]

 

Last week in the Isle of Mann, Mr. CORKHILL, parish-clerk and school-master of Kirk Maughold, to Miss CHRISTIAN of Baldrummond in the said Island.

[According to Manx National Heritage, Edward CORKILL and Margaret CHRISTIAN married on 16 Oct 1777 at Maughold.]

 

DIED.

 

Last week at Shaws, William KIRKPATRICK, Esq. one of the principl [sic] clerks of session, and Sheriff depute of Dumfrieshire.

 

Tuesday the Rt. Honourable Thomas BOWES, Esq. Lord Mayor of York.

[According to his monument in St. Crux Church, York, where he was buried, Thomas BOWES, Apothecary, Lord Mayor in 1761, died in his second mayoralty on 21 Oct 1777 aged 60.]

 

Yesterday morning, after a lingering illness, Mr. Daniel BENN, a very eminent master-mason in this town, who for many years has had the management of the harbour-works here, which will remain a noble monument of his great skill in his profession; he also built St. James's Chapel in this town, the new part of Whitehaven Castle, the new county gaol in Westmoreland, and a number of other fine public and private structures in this county and Westmoreland.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Daniel BENN of Chapel Street was buried on 29 Oct 1777 at St. Nicholas, Whitehaven.]

 

Thursday last, at the Nunnery, near Douglas, Isle of Mann, Mrs. Dorothy FINES, in the 78th year of her age; greatly respected through life, and in her death sincerely lamented by her relations an [sic] acquaintances.

[According to Manx National Heritage, Dorothy FINES was buried on 25 Oct 1777 at Braddan.]
