Tuesday 24 Jun 1777 (p. 3, col. 2)
MARRIED
A few days ago Mr. GRIDDLE of Lowick, to Miss STEVENSON of Broughton, in Lancashire.
[According to FamilySearch, Anthony GRADWELL & Mary STEPHENSON married on 14 Jun 1777 at Broughton in Furness.]
DIED
Wednesday last, after a short illness, and in the 54th year of his age, the Rev. Mr. WILKS, Vicar General, and Rector of St. Mary, Ballaugh, in the Isle of Mann. In him, Society has lost a valuable member, the church an able and exemplary minister, and his family a tender husband and father: his parishoners [sic] consider themselves as deprived of the latter, and his death is generally lamented throughout the Island. Such is the last grateful tribute which will ever be paid to the man who exercises himself in that sacred function, by conscientious discharge of his duty, and a diligent endeavour to promote the present and future happiness of mankind!
[According to Manx National Heritage, Rev. Jas. WILKS was buried on 22 Jun 1777 at Ballaugh.]
Last week, Mrs. ROBINSON, wife of Mr. ROBINSON of Blencogo, greatly lamented by her family and acquaintances.
A few days ago at Lowther Newtown, Mr. Henry BATEMAN, much lamented.
