DIED

Last week, the Rev. John CHRISTIAN, vicar of Kirk-Marown in the Isle of Mann, commonly called Parson Jack; he was a man of odd humour, but possessed of great many amiable qualities, the influence of which was happily felt by his parishioners: few differences arose amongst them which he had not address enough to reconcile; he was an able preacher, and with a freedom of conduct which (in the opinion of many) approached too near levity, he adorned his doctrine with two powerful comments, strict moral justice, and exemplary charity. Some years ago, he built an inn on his estate in the interior part of the island, and placed over the door the following inscription, "This is the house that Jack built."

[According Manx National Heritage, he was buried on 29 Sep 1779 at Marown.]

She was a woman greatly respected and beloved by a numerous acquaintance, and sincerely lamented by her friends and relations: her remains were interred on Sunday, with the greatest solemnity attended by a large concourse of people.

[According to the Copeland Registers Index, Jane DIXON, wife of Isaac, of Toes, was buried on 03 Oct 1779 at Lamplugh.]
