MARRIED

 

A few days ago, Mr. SANDERSON of Flatbank, to Miss Sally JAMES of Penrith.

[According to the Parish Register Transcript, Joseph SANDERSON, husbandman, aged 29, and Sarah James, Penrith, a minor, married on 20 Apr 1778 at Dalston, Cumberland. Perhaps they had previously married at Gretna?]

 

DIED

 

Yesterday se'ennight, at Brampton, Mrs. GRAHAM, wife of Mr. GRAHAM, Surgeon in that place.

[According to an MI in Brampton Old Churchyard, Mary wife of John GRAHAM, surgeon in Brampton, died 22 Mar 1778 aged 34. According to FamilySearch, Mary spouse of John GRAHAM was buried on 25 Mar 1778 at Brampton.]

 

The 19th inst. at Blackwell, near Carlisle, Mr. John LANGHORN, an eminent blacksmith, aged 102.

 

Last Thursday morning, at Appleby, John NICHOLSON, Esq. Clerk of the Peace for the county of Westmorland; a gentleman greatly respected.

[According to FamilySearch, John NICHOLSON, Esq. aged 55, was buried on 28 Mar 1778 at St. Laurence, Appleby.]

 

Last week at Penrith, Mr. Edward CARLISLE in the 74th year of his age.

[According to the Parish Register Transcript, Edward CARLISLE, School-master, aged 73, was buried on 24 Mar 1778 at St. Andrew, Penrith.]

 

A few days ago, at Plumpton, Miss Jane BELL of Wood-End, near Lazonby.

 

Lately in the parish of Buttermire, aged 106, Mrs. Jane WOOD, relict of Mr. WOOD of Brackenthwaite.

 

Last week in Devonshire, John SPOONER, a travelling cooper, aged 108, a soldier under the Duke of Marlborough.

[According to the Newcastle Courant (from which the Cumberland Pacquet clearly had copied), he died in Derbyshire (not Devonshire).]
