THE JUNIOR LEAGUE (Part 2)

Workington L.M. & S. Railway v. Seaton

Played at the Seaton Villa pitch on Saturday.  With the first use of a somewhat hard crease, the home team took some time to settle down against the rapid bowling of Arthur MAGNAY, and with six wickets down for eight runs, the outlook was practically hopeless.   Jos. PINGUEY made a desperate effort to bring the game round, but lacked partnership.  The Railwaymen exceeded the home total before the sixth wicket fell.   For Seaton J. HARKNESS took on wicket for 21 and J. EVE five for 20.   For the L.M. & S. Arthur MAGNAY had six for 14, W. GRAHAM one for 7, and A. MURDOCK, two for 15.   Scores.—

Salterbeck v. Arrowthwaite

Salterbeck, playing at home on a dry wicket, on Saturday, won their opening match with Arrowthwaite by the narrow margin of five runs.   A feature of the play was that W. SPRY obtained 17 of hit total of 18 runs in one over, and there was another thrill with Arrowthwaite required eight runs to win, and obtained only three of them before the last wicket fell.   For Arrowthwaite TAGGERT returned the best bowling average of seven for ten and ROWLANDS, for Salterbeck, took five for 15.  Scores.—
