At a General Meeting of the SOCIETY FOR THE RELIEF OF THE NECESSITOUS CLERGY, AND THE WIDOWS AND ORPHANS OF DECEASED CLERGYMEN IN THE DIOCESE OF CARLISLE, held at the Town-Hall, in the City of CARLISLE, on Thursday the 8th Day of July, 1824, in pursuance of Public Notice, duly given,

 

The Right Rev. LORD BISHOP of CARLISLE,

President, in the Chair.

 

          IT WAS ORDERED,

 

1. THAT the Sum of £25 be paid by the Treasurer to the Rev. Mr. HUDSON, to be by him applied in weekly payments, or otherwise, to the Relief of the Rev. JOHN DUNGLINSON, a distressed Clergyman of this Diocese.

 

2. That the Sum of £10 be paid to Mrs. ELIZ. SLEE, Widow of the late Rev. John SLEE, a deceased Clergyman of this Diocese.

 

3. That the Sum of £10 be paid to Mrs. JANE REDMAN, Widow of the late Rev. John REDMAN, a deceased Clergyman of this Diocese.

 

4. That the Sum of £10 be paid to Mrs. MARGARET FRANKLAND, Widow of the late Rev. RICHARD FRANKLAND, a deceased Clergyman of this Diocese.

 

5. That the Sum of £15 be paid to Mrs. MARGARET TOPPING, Widow of the late Rev. Thomas TOPPING, a deceased Clergyman of this Diocese, for the Relief of herself and Daughter.

 

6. That the Sum of £10 be paid to Mrs. MARY MATTINSON, Widow of the late Rev. John MATTINSON, a deceased Clergyman of this Diocese.

 

7. That the Sum of £20 be paid to the Rev. Mr. DODD, of Wigton, to be by him distributed equally amongst Mrs. HANNAH EARL, Mrs. MARY SHEPHERD, Mrs. MARY ROBINSON, and Mrs. MARY ROGERSON, Widows of four deceased Clergymen of this Diocese; provided they respectively continue resident in the Hospital at Wigton during the current year.

 

8. That the Sum of £5 be placed in the hands of Mr. David RICHARDSON, of Hutton, to be applied in Quarterly payments for the Relief of Mrs. MARY LEWTHWAITE, Widow of the late Rev. Solomon LEWTHWAITE, a deceased Clergyman of this Diocese.

 

9. That the like Sum of £5 be placed in the hands of the Rev. Mr. STEPHENSON, of Blencow, to be applied towards the Education and Support of JOHN LEWTHWAITE, Son of the above-named Rev. Solomon LEWTHWAITE, deceased.

 

10. That the Sum of £10 be placed in the hands of the Rev. Mr. TOPPING of Lazonby, to be applied in Weekly Payments, or otherwise, for the Relief of Miss MARY ATKINSON, Orphan Daughter of the late Rev. Solomon ATKINSON, a deceased Clergyman of this Diocese.

 

11. That the Sum of £10 be placed in the hands of the Rev. Mr. BOUSTEAD, of Mardale, to be applied in Weekly Payments, or otherwise, for the Relief of Miss MARY LANGHORN, Orphan Daughter of the late Rev. Mr. LANGHORN, a deceased Clergyman of this Diocese.

 

12. That the Sum of £10 be paid to Miss SARAH DENTON, a Daughter of the late Rev. Henry DENTON, a deceased Clergyman of this Diocese.

 

That Notice be given of a Motion to be made at the next General Meeting for the Alteration of the Rules, to the following effect, viz.: the adding the words "Sex and," previous to the word Age, &c. in the third Rule; and to extend the office of Governor to all Clergymen subscribing to this Society; and to substitute the word Subscriber in the place of the word Governor in the 13th Rule.

 

That the Stewards be requested to continue their services for another year, viz.:—

That the Thanks of this Meeting be given to the Treasurer and Secretary for his services to the Society.

 

The LORD BISHOP having retired from the Chair,

 

RESOLVED,—That the most cordial Thanks of this Meeting be given to his Lordship, for his able conduct in the Chair.
