Capitán Antonio de la CADENA BULLÓN made a statement as to his "oficio
y parte" "Información contenida de 1616, Trasladada en 1617, y
decretada en 1619" which was then compiled in 1622. This document is
found in the Archivo General de Indias (AGI) (AGI, México, 235, N.
24). It states that: "Antonio de la Cadena Bullón, capitán de
caballos y cabo de tres companies en la conquista de Nuevo México,
natural de Nueva España y vecino de Los Angeles."
In the statement it is states that don Antonio de la Cadena Bullon
"es hijo legitimo de Antonio de la Cadena y doña Leonor de Alvarado, y
nieto por via paterna del Contador, y Factor Antonio de la Cadena, y
doña Maria Vazquez de Bullon, que paso a la Nueva España el año de
[1]523 y fue uno de los mas antigos pobladores, y Conquistadores de
aquel Reyno. Y fue viznieto del Licenciado Pedro de Maluenda, que fue
Corregidor en Zamora, y Juez de las Alzadas en Sevilla, ...... . Y ser el
dicho Capitan don Antonio de la Cadena Bullon reuiznieto del Embaxador
Garci Martinez de Lerma, y de doña Catalina de la Cadena su mugger,
que por los Reyes Catolicos fue embiado a la Señoria de Venecia, y
otra vez al Rey don Fernando de Napoles: y fue tornado a embiar a Roma
al Papa Sixto Quarto, donde residio en la exbaxada mucho tiempo. Y
buelto a España fue buelto a embiar a Flandes al Emperador Maximiliano
hahazer, y concertar el casamiento de la Reyna doña Juana nuestra
señora con el Serenissimo Rey don Felipe Primero deste nombre." The
statement also states that don Antonio de la Cadena Bullon' "es nieto
legitimo por via maternal de Bartolome de Medina, que fue el inventor
de sacar la plata de los metales con Azogue, y le costo sacar a luz
esta invencion; ....." Most of the rest of this document was Antonio de
la CADENA BULLÓN's attempt to get some monitary payment for the
invention of his grandfather, Bartolomé de MEDINA.
In the questions that were being asked of the witnesses it was stated
that: ".. el dicho Capitan don Antonio era lijitimo de Antonio de la
Cadena contador y factor que fue de la Real Hacienda, y de doña María
Vasquez de Bullon, y que la dicha doña Leonor de Alvaro madre del
dicho Capitan don Antonio era hija lijitima de Bartolome de Medina
ynbentor de sacar la plata de los metales con azogue y de doña Leonor
de Morales su lijitima muger ...."
Further on in the questioning there was the statement "si saven
testigo que Lesme de Medina, doña Leonor de Alvaro madre del dicho
Capitan don Antonio y doña Francisca de Medina y doña Ynes de
Alvarado, hijo y hijas de dicho Bartolome de Medina y doña Leonor de
Morales son muertos y no a quedado ni a yotro hijo ni nieto heredero
del dicho Bartolome de Medina ano el dicho Capitan don Antonio de la
Cadena ..."
In another document found in the Archivo General de Indias (AGI,
Pasajeros, L.4, E. 3801) dated 1565-05-09 states that: Bartolome de
MEDINA, natural de Sevilla, hijo de Pedro de MEDINA y de Teresa
GONZÁLEZ, con su mejer, Leonor de MORALES, natural de Sevilla, hija de
Gómez de MORALES y de Inés HERNÁNDEZ de MORALES, y sus hijos Lesmes de
MEDINA, Bartolomé de MEDINA, Teresa de MEDINA, Francisca de MEDINA y
Leonor e Inés de MEDINA, a Nueva España.

to find out who the wife of Bartolome de Medina was. There are a lot
of wrong information about this family on the internet, such as Leonor
de Alvarado was a "mestiza" and granddaughter of Pedro de Alvarado.
