> HISPANIC GENEALOGY
> Author: Donald E. Chipman
> Price: $45.00
> Shipping: $3.00
> Hot off the Press, this new book is overdue but welcome to the growing
> number of persons interested in their Spanish Colonial ancestors in
> Mexico. The author, a noted borderlands historian, credits the
> assistance of our friend and colleague, Luis López Elizondo,of Melchor
> Múzquiz, Coahuila, Mexico. Though the Aztec Empire fell to Spain in
> 1521, three principal heirs of the last emperor, Moctezuma II,
> survived the conquest and were later acknowledged by the Spanish
> victors as reyes naturales, (natural kings or monarchs) who possessed
> certain inalienable rights as Indian royalty. For their part, the
> descendants of Moctezuma II used Spanish law and customs to maintain
> and enhance their status throughout the colonial period, achieving
> titles of knighthood and nobility in Mexico and Spain. So respected
> were they that a Moctezuma descendant by marriage became Viceroy of
> New Spain. This authoritative historical/genealogical work follows the
> fortunes of the principal heirs of Moctezuma II across nearly two
> centuries. Chipman also discusses how the Moctezuma famiily history
> illuminates several larger issues in colonial Latin American history,
> including women's status and relations between Spain and its New World

> genealogy charts. Austin TX, 2005 University of Texas Press 1st Ed.,

To export your Family Tree Maker 5.x file to a GEDCOM:

  1. Open the family file you’d like to use to make the GEDCOM.

  2. Select File, then Copy/Export Family File.

  3. Click the Save as type drop-down list and select GEDCOM (*.GED).

  4. In the File name field, type a name for the GEDCOM file. It must have the extension .GED.

  5. In the Save in fields, select the drive and folder where you want to place your file.

  6. Click Save and the File Type screen will be displayed. In the Destination field, if available, choose FTW. This offers the most complete selection. If the program you are exporting to is not listed, choose FTM. In the GEDCOM field, select Version 5.5. In the Character Set field, select ANSI.

    ******VERY IMPORTANT

Be sure to leave the Indent Tabs checkbox unselected.

The Abbreviate Tags checkbox should be selected.

  7. Click OK and Family Tree Maker creates the GEDCOM file.

    ******VERY IMPORTANT

The privacy of living relatives should be protected. You can do this in two ways. You can copy the original Family Tree Maker file and remove the vital statistics for your living relatives from this copy OR you can use a utility program to delete that information for you. Please remember to use the utility on the COPY of your original Family Tree Maker file.

  8. There is a very easy GEDCOM utility available free to remove living people’s vital statistics from your GEDCOM file. This utility should be run after you’ve created your GEDCOM file. It’s available for download from the following Internet address:

http://www.rootsweb.com/~gumby/ged.html
  • Run the GEDCOM utility. In the From field, Browse and select your new GEDCOM file. In the To field, save this GEDCOM file, with living people’s vital statistics removed, with a new name. Select Remove details in the Processing Options and select the Cutoff year. Then click on Process.
  • Now you’re ready to send your GEDCOM file to GenServ. Open your e-mail program and create a new mail to
ged...@genserv.com
  • Attach the GEDCOM file to this e-mail and click Send.

For additional help creating your GEDCOM or running the above-mentioned GEDCOM utility,
