Dear all,
Pardon the late notice, but I hope those of you in Chicago can make it to this. I'm on a panel, "Perspectives: Broadening the Conversation about Gendered Violence," with Traci Schlesinger and Owen Daniel-McCarter.
My talk's entitled: "Mad Sex, Strange Laws: Law Enforcement and the Hysteria around Sex Trafficking" I'll be giving a brief history of sex trafficking hysteria, going back to 19th century Chicago, and then discussing Illinois's End Demand legislation in particular and the hysteria around sex work in general.
Here's a facebook link, if that should prove more useful, and a brief description of the event:
https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=202721833132486"Part of The Women's
Center's annual Violence Against Women / Violence
Against Communities series, this year's discussion will focus on
critiques of the social systems that perpetuate economic and gender
inequality and how those systems create divisions among and between
communities, including communities of color, immigrant communities, lgbt
communities."
Yours,
Yasmin
