Dear all,

I wanted to check again whether any of you intend to participate in the ATGender conference in April (with D. Haraway) - if so, could you get back to me by the end of this week (22.1)?

ATGender is now the European professional organisation for Gender studies, successor organisation of ATHENA and others. The potential significance for our work is that like ATHENA and the European Sociological Organisation (ESA), e.g., ATGender is instituting transversal working groups that in the past received partial funding for meetings and publications (I have followed the work of the Travelling Concepts Group that put out some interesting work, and participated in a women in science workshop sponsored by ESA). Working groups also propose streams in the triannual Feminist Theory conferences (the next is held in Brussels in 2012). So far, there is nothing on gender and the physcial sciences, and I think this could be a good opportunity for further work after the GENNA funding ends in 2011.

Given the work that is currently underway for uppsala and the few hurried emails I received it may well be that April is not the right timing for most - but it's definitely something to keep in mind. so let me know what you think. another possibility is to write a letter of intent to establish a working group in time for the Brussels conference.

All the best
Dagmar

Dear all,

this might be a good strategy to write a letter of intent. So we could
come into play easier later on.
But I cannot attend the conference ATGender.

Best, Martina

Dear all
I am not able to participate in the ATGender conference either - but back the idea of a letter of intent up!
Many greetings Cathrine

Dear all, a bit late but completely in accordance with the other
statements: no time for Utrecht in April and yes, a letter of intent
for a working group. when is this to be done - any deadline known?
Very best from Berlin, Elvira

Dear all,

thanks for your responses. I have just consulted the new webpage of AtGender and it seems that the installation of working groups for the moment is geared towards the upcoming conference in April. So if you agree I will write to the contact person and ask whether there are plans to install working groups on a more permanent basis and that we would be interested in this. If there is a positive response we could draft a working group description, possibly together in Uppsala. However, this would require that those interested are individual or institutional members. Martina, Cathrine and Elvira, is this the case for you? (individual membership fee is EUR 75/45 (reduced) per year.
would be great if you can let me know!
Best
Dagmar

Dear Dagmar, dear all,

Thank you for your activities in building a network within atgender, Dagmar.
I was not so convinced from this network when it was presented in Utrecht at the gender conference - so I do not plan to become an active member in the near futur.
Nevertheless it is a pleasuer to see that you have a different oppinion and because of that I support Dagmars activities. I will stay open minded to be convinced from your experiences. ;-)

Warm greetings to all of you,
Helene

Dear Dagmar, dear all!

Regarding the membership: I am pretty sure that the centre in Uppsala
is a member of ATGENDER. Staffan, could you check this? In addition, I
will find out, if the Free University is a member or if they are
willing to join the network. Yet I am not an individual member, but
would do so if necessary.

Regarding the working group: I support this idea very much and if you
can pursue this further, Dagmar, that would be great. There has been
an initiative for a working group on gender and physics for the
athena4 program in 2008/2009. Maria Rentetzi then sent in a proposal
and my name and Staffan's were mentioned as collaborators. But then
the athena4 program never was established and ATgender was created.
From what I know Maria is not following up on this plan.

Very best from Berlin, Elvira

Many greetings Cathrine

Dear all,
Great work Dagmar and thanks for highlighting this opportunity. I'll check the membership with Umeå University as well. If not, perhaps Umeå Uni will be willing to join the network.
All the best from Helena
