Trento is a university city and not a tourist place. That has
consequences for the accommodation. Holiday apartments (that was an
idea in March) exist only around the town, in the mountains ? then you
need a car (or you want to be off the EASST-event.
There is not too much room available any way. I now booked the Grand
Hotel on the recommendation from one of the GOSH-members - it?s only
slightly more expensive than most of the others and more than that, it
was still available. This hotel as well as most of the others have
conference rooms and I think we should book one of these for our
i-GAP-meeting. I can take care of this. Any specific preferences?
If you think of a few holidays ? lake Garda is a touristic area, yes,
yes, but extremely beautiful!
On our EASST meeting: Helena wrote we should rework the announcement
(I agree!) before spreading the information. It is attached here. And
under this link you find the poster materials:
http://www.genna.gender.uu.se/themes/physics/research/
(click on the picture). They are rather old. Do they need an update?
Dagmar and Helena suggested a sharespace. Shall we try that? Or should
we rather stay here on the googlegroup?
Have a good start into this week! Best, Elvira

thanks for organising the network meeting in Trento in September. I think,
the Grand Hotel would be nice having our meeting there. I booked the Villa
Fontana last week, they still had some rooms available.
There should have been an attachment with the EASST announcement of our
network? I am afraid it didn't get through, at least on my server.
I made some comments on the symposion draft and the web page text, but since
I was in the train to Vienna, only with pencil. So I hope I can tap this
down into my computer ans send it out on wednesday.
Best, Martina

I hope you all have enjoyed the summer holidays and had a good start
into the new academic year!
From the program of the upcoming EASST conferences I see that we will
be represented in the tracks 8 and 23 (Cathrine, Dagmar, Helena,
Helene, Martina and from the Uppsala Centre too: Jutta Weber). I
appreciate very much that these sessions are not held in parallel!
The network meeting is scheduled for Thursday, September 2, during the
lunch break 12:00-13:30 h at Grand Hotel Trento, (Via Vittorio
Alfieri, 1, 38122 Trento, Italia, T: 0461-271000). We have a small
conference room called ?Libera?. It is located 8 minutes from the
conference.
To distribute the information about our existence and the
possibilities of contact I have produced the draft for a flyer, here
attached. It contains mainly the infos from the webpage reworked after
your comments (Thanks!). I should get the final information about the
room tomorrow (there were some uncertainties about the costs). If
something else needs to be changed, let me know!
I will send you the finalized version as soon as possible and please
use them for your STS contacts (I don?t have so many).
Because of the time constraints it will be a short meeting and
probably a small one. The program of this event should be accordingly
moderate and more socially oriented. My suggestion is to briefly
comment our schedule from the end of the March-meeting:
i-GAP: Interferences of Gender and Physics ? Engendering the Material Sciences
knowledge
production + culture + power
mobility
innovation
(better in the second attachment)
My suggestions:
Dagmar + Martina: on the mission and the basic structure (the 3 columns)
Helena: on mobility as a cutting topic
Cathrine: on innovation as a cutting topic
Helene: on the Centre in Uppsala
Elvira: on the planned symposium
All together not more than 30 minutes (that?s roughly 10 sentences of
information each), then to use the rest of the time for questions.
If you agree, I can produce a power point slide of the schedule
In addition, we can use the infos from the webpage as material and a
print-out of the GenDADA power point as decoration.
I am looking forward to seeing you soon!
Very best, Elvira

Subject: EASST coming up
I am looking forward to meeting some of you in September in Trento, at the conference, the theme 23 meetings, our network meeting, and in more informal situations.
I agree with with the plan for the network meeting, and my role to tell about Centrum in Uppsala in 10 sentences. :-)
To the flyer: It is hard to write the flyer abd it is easy to critizise. But please, could we in the topic MISSION STATEMENT repeate the explanation of the first column: physics and related disciplines.
The i-GAP research network on gender and material sciences integrates expertise from science studies, history of science and social sciences as well as from education and politics with that of physics AND RELATED DISCIPLINES.
THANKS.
Hughs to all of you,
Helene

Elvira, many thanks for doing all these preparations! The time our meeting
is now scheduled is ideal I think because the people are still "mentally
fresh" as the parallel sessions have not begun then.
I made one commentary in the flyer and deleted one blank (please see
attached). Is it okay that we wait for comments until friday? So Elvira
can send out the final version of the flyer on the week-end and we can
diffuse them via our networks until wednesday?
It is totally okay for me to introduce with Dagmar the 3 columns and the
structure of our program.
Dagmar, may be we should have a call in order to organise our "10
sentences" ? I can phone you, if you give me your number. Mine in Austria
is
0043-1-4092745.
And also for all of you: I will arrive on wednesday and will take my
mobile with me in Trento: it is 0043- 699 - 190 288 44.
Looking forward seeing you,
best, Martina

Thanks for all your positive responses and the suggestions. According
changes have been made in the flyer and in between I received the
confirmation about the meeting room. The attached flyer can now be
used for distribution.
Also attached is the power point representation of our scheme for the
network presentation.
I should arrive on Wednesday evening, and may be we could meet for
dinner? In June found a friendly and simple/straightforward place off
the tracks called Ristorante Al Vo' (Vicolo del Vò, 11, 38122 Trento,
Phone: 0461-985374) It is just around the corner from Hotel America.
Let me know, what you think about it.
See you soon after a good trip to Trento! Best, Elvira
I will also arrive on wednesday evening, about 6 p.m. I think , by train
from Vienna. Good idea to have dinner together. Then we can still talk
about the network-meeting. My hotel is Villa Fontana.
And my phone number in any case: 0043- 699- 190 288 44.
See you soon,
Martina
