On June 18, 1983, Sally Ride transformed history when she became the first American woman to fly into space. After her second shuttle flight, Ride decided to retire from NASA and pursue her passion for education by inspiring young people. As a result, she founded Sally Ride Science, an organization dedicated to supporting students interested in STEM. Ride passed away in 2012, but her work continues to inspire young women across the country.

In fact, video games did not get their true start from computer programmers, but from an engineer skilled in another major invention of the 20th century: the television set. By the 1960s, millions of Americans had invested in televisions for their homes, but these television sets were only used for the viewing of entertainment. Engineer Ralph Baer was certain this technology could be used to play games.

The need to hide messages and their meaning from prying eyes (that is, encrypting them) probably surfaced not long after humankind invented writing. The timeline of the history of encryption is long. Encryption can be traced back to its religious use in ancient Egypt, and Greek and Roman military culture, to the World Wars and the creation of the first computer, to finally arrive at its modern use in the era of the World Wide Web.
