Well, here is a few that my family and I do.

1. You must wear atleast one piece of clothing that is new.

2. Your undies must be yellow or red and you must wear them in side
out.
(this is for good luck)

3. At midnight, you eat twelve grapes and make a wish for each.

4. Grab suitcases and run around the block until you get tired (this
is supposed to make your new year filled with traveling experiences)

5. This one i did last year for the first time, you put a few lentils
in your pockets (this is supposed to bring wealth)

6. At midnight, we all gather around and have a toast.

ALL THESE THINGS MIGHT NOT ALWAYS WORK (they worked for me this year)
BUT THEY ARE ALWAYS FUN TO DO WITH THE FAMILY EVERY YEAR :)

those are a few i can remember..... Im sure most of you do something
like that or maybe something totally different on new years. SHARE!!

and if you dont have any wacky traditions... well, maybe I'm just a
little weird. hahaha :)

hahahaha..i like the part with suitcases..it sounds really funny.. :o)
i would like to try it, but in front of my building is always
everything frozen, so it would be also quite dangerous..hehe..
i don't have some tradition with my family, because we wait new year
separately..but we wear something red (most of the time underwear or
socks) for luck..that's the only "tradition" we do..

We bang pot and pan in the road. I'm not sure the neighbors love our
tradition.

For the last 3 years, including this New Years I spend it with my best
friend Ariel. We always love to spend it with as many friends as
possible. When the ball drops we like to be with our family and watch
it on TV. She lives close to a place called "City Place." They have
a fire works display, but we can watch it from her backyard. It's
wonderful.

This isn't really a tradition, but it's one of my favorite memories
invoving New Year's eve.

My sister's birthday is January 1st. She's ten years younger than me.
So, when she was a little girl, I used to tell her that all of the
people on the television (waiting in Times Square for the ball to
drop) were celebrating her birthday! She thought that was pretty
amazing and believed it until she was about 6 or 7.

I'm a little late to this party, but I thought I'd contribute a little
tradition in my family, anyway.

New Years isn't exactly a big event or anything in my family, but
there is a thing we do every year for good luck. My Whooshie makes my
sister and I have a bite of sauerkraut. I say "makes" because we hate
sauerkraut and only eat it under duress. I'm not too sure if it works
or not, but I haven't had any crappy years since I started eating the
sauerkraut (the ONLY bit of sauerkraut I eat for the ENTIRE year). So
maybe. :)

When I was growing up we had to eat pickled herring. So I understand.
