Hi folks,

On 14 December, prior to the 2008 Fall AGU Meeting we have the opportunity to gather and discuss progress in research related to our Space Radiation Climatology Focus Group. We have tentatively been given a 2-hour time slot 4:45-6:45 PM in Nob Hill A at the Marriott San Francisco. See the wiki at http://virbo.org/wiki/index.php/GEM2008mini

If you are interested in presenting material, please contact me. Geoff and I will give priority to material that is not already scheduled for regular AGU talks later in the week. However, if you have an AGU talk that is of interest to FG9, please enter it on the wiki http://virbo.org/wiki/index.php/GEM2008mini or send me an email and I'll enter it for you.

Discussion topics will include:

  • AE9/AP9 project update (pending)
  • Principal component analysis - recent examples
  • Reanalysis updates
The mini workshop agenda can be found (someday) at the GEM Workshops Homepage

See you in San Francisco,
-paul

Presentations in the Focus Group 9 sessions at the 2008 GEM Summer Workshop are now available on line at

There's quite a bit of useful material there that the authors have made available to the community (i.e. you). In preparation for the mini-GEM it may also be useful to take a look at progress made by our working group up to now and think about next steps and topics we would like to solicit for the 2009 Summer Workshop.

cheers
Geoff

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for doing that.

I'd like to push for principal component analysis of simulations and reanalyses as a topic for our focus group this summer. Tim and I will be showing some examples at the mini, so maybe that can be a launching point to get others to try those techniques. I've challenged Tim to have PC analysis of Mike Liemohn's ring current simulations -- hopefully the first PC amplitude time series will look something like Dst.
