Some of you may be aware of a certain Garbage Kingdom GELT recently gave glorious birth to in Highland Park. Well, I wanted to let you all know that The Guild is (to my knowledge) the first business enterprise and incubated idea Distributed Power and GELT has generated, and that the Garbage Kingdom is currently the centerpiece project for The Guild being run out of Central United Methodist Church, in Detroit. I really want to thank Scott and Brandon for creating and then nurturing the space for this new adventure. You both make me want to raise my game every day - and in these times its hard to think of oneself as failing to rise to that challenge.

The Guild is working to elect a council of 13 grandmothers as an authentic decision making body in Detroit. Its purpose is to accelerate the accumulation of new forms of wealth (water, energy, food, shelter), and its mission is to keep it in the hands of the Council of Grandmothers.

I am looking for volunteers, will be asking for donations, and by October hoping to offer paying jobs (very low paying to start, mind you) on incredibly cool projects until at least next June.

If any of you are interested in the work or have some ideas give me a call (new phone # 313-808-3801).

Greetings

Post GELT is hard on us all, I know.  Thus, a friendly reminder that we are still here, in Highland Park, anxiously awaiting visits from you all, either in person or in the dream-world.  For those who participated in GELT, I would like you all to take about 10 minutes and fill out this survey;

For those who are interested in continued work, either via GELT-EDU, weekend work parties, conference attendance or something else, respond to this email regarding your interest.  I still have some of the PDC certificates for a few of you.  If you did not receive yours, email me the best address to send them to and we will get them out to you soon.

We are also looking for T-shirt designs specific to this summer's program, so if any of you have ideas, email them to me.  Otherwise, we will continue to use this group to share information and connect.  Thanks for all your hard work this summer.

More updates to come!

godspeed,
scott

Marcus,

You lost me on some parts of this e-mail, but I know I'm down as soon as I get back to Detroit. I applied for a job with Greening but found out the other day that I didn't get it, now I'm hoping to land a job with D-YES. I've got some ideas for the paper/journal that I'd like to talk to you about. Hope to see you soon man, and let me know how the Kingdom/tetherball court is turning out.

Austin

This is very sweet, congrats Marcus!

Could you send an update with more examples of what The Guild and this work will look like?  From this email I got the idea that its pretty awesome, but don't know really what it is.

More details will be really helpful to understand the full scope of work and potential impacts this project will have.

Hey Everyone, An update on The Guild.
I'm thinking we have to design and build a badass tower in the Garbage Kingdom. On the tower I would like to tell the story of the Garbage Kingdom itself. Like maybe the Tower is where the Garbage King sits with his alchemy and cooks garbage into Green Gold, because the old gold doesn't work anymore. Paints, brushes, washers & screws, tires, lumber etc. etc. So we can use the Tower as the focal point of our $743.00 budget, but here's the catch, I have to spend all the money in the next 10 days. I think of this as a big brainstorm too, so all your notes and thoughts around GELT will be of great help. If we can pick up an idea that folks are excited about I have an additional $750.00 available, but I would have to spend that money in the following 10 days as well. I would like to figure out how to house as many of you as possible at Candler so that we can spend this money as well as possible. I'm especially hoping the Flamethrower, Foreman, and Sunrunner could help cook this glorious alchemy int he Tower they built. Email me with ideas for how to spend this money.

M

p.s. I would like to start the story of the Garbage Kingdom with "In the beginning..."  Email me if you have ideas about what should come after that.

Marcus, Wicked sweet!  The dragon could definitely use some TLC - a few tires have fallen off, and the platform needs some kind of ladder/staircase/entryway.  Oooh, maybe a firemans' pole to slide down?

Is this $750 strictly dedicated to the Dragon/Garbage Kingdom, or can it be used for general GELT-liness?  I ask because the upstairs currently does not have running water, and the downstairs does not have electricity, and these things would be very helpful to have before winter comes.  The house is definitely coming along, but one working bathroom for soon-to-be ~8 people is far less than ideal. So... thoughts on exactly where this money should go?

I'm up for coming to HP this weekend to help with any building if I
can find a way down there! Anyone else at State interested?

Right on right on. We got a lot of clean-up, and a lot of re-visioning we gotta do. So come with your thinking caps on. For those of you staying here, think of it like a slumber party (heads up, the house is in a lot of transition and isn't going to be extremely comfortable).

Mike, Liz, Kyle, Austin. Anybody else think they can come?

Sadly, I can't make it, but I want to encourage the (safe) incorporation of mirrors on the tower...

Hey all,

I'm working this weekend and couldn't get someone to cover my shift,
so I'll be staying in EL. I'm jacked the Kingdom is getting
rejuvenated and wishing you all the best.
