A string is a set of ports served weekly by a carrier. For example, one string might be: Shanghai > Ningbo > Los Angeles > Oakland > Shanghai. The string moves in a circular direction but always along the same schedule of ports with a fixed departure day of the week set for each port.

2. When carriers are changing the number of strings per week. If the carrier plans to cut down from 10 weekly Shenzhen > L.A. sailings to 5 weekly sailings, blank sailings will occur during that transition time. Strings are also rescheduled when new ocean alliances are formed.

If your cargo was booked on a sailing that has been canceled, it will be rescheduled to move on the next available sailing. Your Flexport team will keep you updated on the status of your cargo in the app and will adjust your shipment schedule as necessary.

This 5 day delay cannot be adjusted because the schedule integrity has to be maintained and the ship may need to reach Hong Kong on the 30th of April as Hong Kong is a main transhipment hub for the shipping line and a lot of containers may be compromised..

JOC reported that carriers operating to the USA West Coast reduced 222,600 TEUs while on the East Coast 127,300 TEUs were removed.. As per SeaIntelligence, carriers on the Asia to the West Coast route announced cancellation of 22 sailings in a 3 week period coinciding with the Lunar New Year..

The blank sailings were required to bring the overcapacity in line with the average volumes of recent years.. Such reduction in overcapacity is in some cases also designed to create an increase in rates which the carriers use as leverage during contract negotiations..

If it is a planned blank sailing, all that the shipping lines can do is to announce these blank sailings as early as possible and advise customers and all that the shippers can do is to plan their shipments in such a way as to avoid blank sailings..

Hello, I am a little bit late but.. can we have an answer to the question above? Does your example mean the goods that were loaded in Singapore for unloading in Durban will be unloaded in Santos in order to wait the next vessel? If so, who is responsible to pay the extra port cost? (One more unloading/loading).
