Well, if I'm reading this right, you simply want to debug your app on your Android device. If that is correct, then all you would really need is the Android SDK and set up ADB or "Android Debug Bridge". Its not terribly difficult, but may take some work to get usb working correctly. You will also need to go to Settings>Applications>Debugging>Enable USB Debugging. If using Eclipse to do the application development, there are several tools that will automate sending the test version of the app to your phone.
Also, it appears that there is no solution for kies on linux. I don't know anything about kies, but the standard Android app development method should work just fine and there's plenty of documentation at the developer site.
I have a Galaxy (great phone by the way) but sadly have to confirm that you won't get Samsung Kies working in Wine. If you succeed in getting Kies installed, you are unlikely to establish proper contact with the phone. This is I believe due to limited usb support in wine. (this is the reason tomtom home won't run in wine - it will install perfectly, but it can't talk to the device)
You do not need Kies or a driver to use ADB and the sdk on Linux. First go to the android developer web site and install the SDK and Eclipse. I expect as you are developing on Windows already you'll work this bit out following their instructions.
When a USB device is inserted into you PC the service udev is used to arbitrate how and where the 'device' is mounted. As your phone, when in debug mode, is unknown to the system it will only create the usb file node, which libusb uses to talk to it. Everything is a file in Linux. The problem is that this node is only accessible by the root account. You need to tell udev to allow a program, ADB in this case, talk to it with a normal user account.
Ubuntu is perfect for Android development, I use it at work all the time. Whilst the windows guys are trying to find drivers for a new device being tested I just do lsusb get the idVendor and idProduct values, add a new line in udev and restart the service and i'm up and running. :)
I have an old samsung galaxyGT-P1000 7.1 tablet and I need to transfer my photos from t to my laptop but not having any success with samsung kies It tells me to save it then double click and follow on screen instructions but all that happens is I get a popup progress bar which stayed like this for hours I have tried several times without sucess. I used to have it OK on an old laptop.
I understand that you want to transfer your photos from your old Tab Galaxy phone to the PC but have not been successful. Are you having a difficulty copying other files to or from the computer? As this would be an issue with your tablet , it may be better to post your issue in the Samsung forum. Although you do not have a HP tablet, this link may help.HP Tablets - Working with Files (Android 4.4/KitKat)
many thanks for taking the time to respond, I found others were having this trouble in microsort communities and a link > , was added which allowed me to download Kies, but then there was another problem and I had to download a program from the web because there was an issue saying settings> applications> usb debugging, but I could not find this
Thank you for the update. This is out of my area of expertise and is not supported by HP. As my previous post did not help, it would be best to contact Samsung for assistance. Should you have an issue in the future with a HP product, the community is here to help. Good Luck!
HI I was wondering if someone could give my some help or ideas on how I could transfer my photos from my samsung flip phone. I was using Samsung Kies before to transfer my photos but Now Samsung Kies does not work on my computers anylonger to do this. So I was wondering if some body could suggested some ideas on how I might go about transfering my photos over from my Samsung flip phone to my computers. I have one desktop with windows 10 home and one laptop with Windows 11 64 bit operating system
Also, you can connect your phone and computer by using the USB-C to USB-A cable. Once you plugged in your phone to your computer. Unlock your phone screen. Then you will see your phone's folder, internal. Double click the folder and look for DCIM folder. All your photos should be inside there.
I would just like to say that I did download smart switch from the samsung.ca website. Then I installed it on my windows 11 laptop once it was installed I connected my Samsung SM-B780W to the smart switch software. But I must say that nothing happend the software did nothing it just stayed on the connect screen. I also connected my usb cable to my cell phone then to my laptop in the software. Nothing changed. So then I tried connecting my usb transfer cable to my laptop and then to my samsung cell phone but when I went to file explorer and then I clicked on This Pc my samsung folder did not come up as a device below the windows c drive.
I alo tried the same software smart switch on my windows 10 desktop and when the software was installed I connected the following cell phone with my usb cable to the software. Nothing happened either the software just stayed on the connect your device page.
