Serato has just announced the public beta of Serato DJ Pro version 3.1, which includes the usual raft of bug fixes, but also a potentially very useful new feature for users who have embraced Serato Stems. On this episode of Beatsource Tech, Mojaxx gives you a quick breakdown of everything you need to know.

In addition to this, the new version includes improved versions of existing effects. The Custom FX feature is especially interesting. It allows you to create your own effects and save them as presets. This feature is available to all owners of Serato DJ Suite or Expansions, as well as FX license holders.

Furthermore, Serato DJ 3.2.0 sports an improved user interface with new display modes. This includes the redesigned FX Panel for a better overview. You can now save up to four FX banks.

Channel FX supports controllers and mixers with built-in hardware effects. In the new version of the DJ software, you can now assign these to the filter control. This feature is also available in Serato Play.

I'm sure there is a market for software like this where most of the work is done for you, like auto syncing of loops, auto keys, auto harmonics, auto everything. And drag and drop song creation. I think it's missing auto lyric creation though, maybe somebody will come out with that soon though and include it in a DAW. I guess it's not for me though, and that's ok.

Serato Sample has been one of the most valuable product for me.

DJ software has become more and more "sample-aware" over the years, from more cue points to sample pads etc., so creating a new product that extends on such capabilities just makes sense. Some DJs have been using AKAI MPCs for long, and it looks like they want to add something like that inside their own program in a more accessible and syncable way. Your music sets the bpm and Studio follows.

I remember using Protools when Digidesign first released it, and I used Steinberg Time Bandit for a while, which was one of the first time stretchers, and then Serato Pitch n Time got released, I believe in 1998, and I used that for a long time. Back in the day, that's how I would time stretch most vocals for remixes.

This is a huge move on Serato's part. It's what people have been asking Native Instruments to do for years, which is to integrate Maschine/Komplete (studio content creation) with Traktor (DJing and live performance).

You have a bunch of folks that already own Serato DJ controllers from various companies. Most of these controllers have built-in audio interfaces, velocity-sensitive pads, faders/knobs that send midi, etc. Serato leveraged that and made a simplified DAW that's auto-mapped to those controllers. You can sequence drums and play notes from the hardware pads, record automation from the knobs, chop samples with cue points, etc. It's turns Serato hardware into a mini-Maschine or Ableton Push really. Very forward thinking. It's only in beta, I can't imagine what version 2 or a "Pro" version will do.

With the first beta version of this subscription-only service launching today, Serato Studio hopes to appeal to budding music producers who can use a DJ-style workflow to dip their toe into the world of music production. Serato Studio hopes its intuitive design will "eliminate the steep learning curve commonly associated with music production" while simultaneously catering to more experienced producers with a whole host of advanced features such as automation, stem exporting and third-party plugin support.

When asked how the Serato Studio's workflow differs from that of DAWs like Ableton or Logic, Maclaren had this to say: "Serato Studio focuses primarily on speed and power so you can spend less time hitting roadblocks and more time having fun making something. When you load up Studio there's a drum kit ready to go, adding samples will sync right to your project and when you load up an instrument, Studio will show you which notes work with the sample. When people feel inspired, we want them to be able to open up Studio and get their ideas down fast".

is there any way to export my cue points from djuced and import them into serato? i have a number of songs that ive set hot cues on in djuced that i would like to use in serato, but when i load them in serato the hot cues arent there. as much as i love djuced, i want to start to stream and i find its too resource intensive and laggy when i run obs. serato doesnt seem to cause the same issues

1) If you find you have more CPU time on Serato than on Djuced, then in Djuced > Settings > Audio

- make sure your audio interface in Djuced is ""DJControl Inpulse 500 ASIO(ASIO)": if you use the sound device "Speakers (Hercules DJControl Inpulse 500) (WASAPI)", it takes more CPU than the ASIO sound device "DJControl Inpulse 500 ASIO(ASIO)".

- do not enable the option "Send master to computer speakers" as it is CPU hungry.
