The Pacific Gateway Workforce Development Board, represents the cities of Long Beach and Signal Hill. Board Members are entrepreneurs, community leaders, educators and stakeholders of the communities Pacific Gateway serves. They work together in the effort to make their community an economically robust environment.
The Board is responsible for oversight of the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act resources, leveraging robust and responsive business solutions and One-Stop Career Center systems in Pacific Gateway's service area that deliver workforce and economic development services to diverse communities.
Focused on its role as a strong Industry Convener, Workforce Intermediary, and Training Broker, the Board works closely with key Regional partners around Southern California to ensure workforce development activities that are an essential part of regional economic development and job creation strategies.
The Board meets quarterly, and meetings are open to the public. In addition to the Workforce Development Board, Pacific Gateway also hosts a Youth Committee, which also meets on a quarterly basis.
In 2019 Pacific Gateway aims to be the first workforce board in the US extending services to flexible labor. At this stage we want to engage larger users of flexibly scheduled or on-demand workforces around SoCal.
In September 2015, the City of Long Beach was awarded $3,995,609 by the US Department of Defense, Office of Economic Adjustment (DOD-OEA), to help the City and its residents strengthen its economic position in the wake of the Being C-17 Plant closure. DOD-OEA invests in communities that have experienced an economic impact due to the termination of a military contract or operation.
