A Day With Dad And Uncle Tom By Sheila Robins 11yo 121

Hi, my name is Sheila and I am 11 years old. I live in London with my mum and my dad. My dad is a firefighter and my mum is a nurse. They are both very busy and sometimes they have to work at night. That's why I love weekends, because we can spend more time together as a family.

Last weekend, my dad had a surprise for me. He said we were going to visit his brother, Uncle Tom, who lives in the countryside. Uncle Tom is a farmer and he has a lot of animals on his farm. I was very excited because I love animals and I had never been to a farm before.

We packed our bags and got in the car. It took us about two hours to get to Uncle Tom's farm. When we arrived, he greeted us with a big smile and a hug. He showed us around his farm and introduced us to his animals. He had cows, sheep, pigs, chickens, ducks, horses, dogs and cats. They were all very friendly and cute. I especially liked the baby animals, like the lambs, piglets and chicks.

Uncle Tom let me feed some of the animals with him. He gave me a bucket of corn and told me to throw some to the chickens and ducks. They came running towards me and pecked at the corn. It tickled my hand and made me laugh. He also gave me a bottle of milk and told me to feed a lamb. The lamb was very hungry and drank the milk quickly. It was so soft and fluffy that I wanted to hug it.

After feeding the animals, Uncle Tom took us for a ride on his tractor. He drove us around his fields and told us about his crops. He grew wheat, barley, oats, potatoes, carrots and apples. He said he had to work hard to take care of his farm, but he also enjoyed it very much. He said he loved being close to nature and living in peace.

We stopped at a pond where there were some ducks swimming. Uncle Tom gave me some bread crumbs and told me to feed them. The ducks came closer and quacked loudly. They ate the bread crumbs from my hand and splashed water on me. It was fun and refreshing.

We went back to the farmhouse where Aunt Mary, Uncle Tom's wife, had prepared lunch for us. She was very kind and sweet. She made us some delicious food with fresh ingredients from the farm. We had roast chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, apple pie and ice cream. It was one of the best meals I ever had.

After lunch, we played some games with Uncle Tom and Aunt Mary. We played cards, chess, checkers and Scrabble. They were very good at these games and taught me some tricks and tips. We also played with their dogs and cats, who were very playful and cuddly.

We had a great time at Uncle Tom's farm. I learned a lot about farming and animals. I also had fun with my dad, Uncle Tom and Aunt Mary. They were very nice and generous to us. They gave us some gifts when we left, like a jar of honey, a basket of apples and a woolen scarf.

I thanked them for their hospitality and said goodbye to them and their animals. I hugged them all and told them I would come back soon.

We got in the car and drove back home. I was tired but happy. It was one of the best days of my life.
