⚡Hey GEG Michigan: Let’s Recharge Together!⚡

Hi GEG Michigan! As we approach the MACUL (Michigan Association of Computer Users in Learning) Conference later this month, we wanted to connect all of our MI GEG members around the theme of the conference: “Recharge Learning”. This has been a tumultuous and extremely challenging year in so many ways, but we know there have been moments of light and joy as well.

We would love if you, our MI GEG members, would reply to this thread and share a moment from this past year that has recharged you as an educator!

I'll kick us off! My recharge this year has come in many forms, but I think a habit I started a few years ago has been one highlight that sticks out. I have an ongoing "Affirmations" Google Doc that I keep on the front page of my Google Drive. All the tiny notes of gratitude, kindness, success stories that I receive from the teachers/admin/students I work with I screenshot (when I remember) and tuck inside that document. When I'm feeling low or like I'm struggling to make an impact in my role, I pull it up and have specific reminders from those who have taken the time to share how my work has supported them and their students that help me recharge. ⚡

I am recharged when I see teachers that I support embracing technology. Many have seen the impact technology can make on education this school year. It has been a joy watching the creative thinking unfold when teachers are planning lessons to engage students so that they continue to love learning.

Ok, I'll play.
I got a total recharge this year seeing all the teachers that have fought tech use for years completely embrace it! I know it was not initiated by choice but by need, but the results have been AWESOME!
  • Teachers that hated their devices now love them.
  • Teachers that didn't see the usefulness of Google Tools now could not teach without them.
  • Google Classroom is now even the minimal tech use teachers' best friend.
  • Video Meetings (although we are all tired of them) have been a snap to do at a moment's notice.
  • All our staff has risen to the challenge to make learning engaging.
  • Minimal tech users have caught up and the high fliers are doing amazing things!
It has been a doozy of a year, but everyone has done an amazing job!

Guess I will give this a try!
I have struggled this year with all of my classes being virtual even though classroom teachers get to see some of their kiddos in-person. I miss those littles!

I have really missed seeing and hearing those "ooooohhhhss' and 'aaaahhhhhhs' in my computer lab. What gets me excited is when someone leaves a comment in Google Classroom of, "that was a lot of fun" or the kinders someone leaves a comment, "Billy really had fun and enjoyed that."

Thank heavens for Mote and being able to send them messages in Google Classroom where they can hear me laughing when I make a comment, too!
