Hey GEG Michigan Members!

Are you looking to have some fun this winter? Want to learn some EASY and QUICK tech tidbits? Join the first-ever GEGE Michigan Tech Challenge!

GEG Tech Challenge Site.gif

Each week over the course of 10 weeks there will be a new (and I promise VERY easy and quick) tech challenge posted in a Google Classroom. Each challenge is posted with my "how-to" steps to help you succeed! Some of these might even be tools you already have experience with so it will be extra easy to complete. If you complete the challenge you will earn digital badges, and of course the reminder of just how cool you are.

I will send out a sign up the first week in January with the Tech Challenge beginning January 11. Even if you are not sure you can do all the challenges, join in to have access to all the tips and tricks shared in the Google Classroom!

If you want a sneak peek of the website that shares more info check it out here: http://bit.ly/GEGmiTechChallenge

I hope you decide to have some fun and play along. More to come later!

I love this idea!  I am stealing it for our training plan for administration and teachers.  Short, manageable training with hard deadlines, awesome.

I am glad to see some wanting to play! YAY!

I will be sending out the sign up just after Christmas for anyone to join. I am just finalizing some things on my end and getting through the bulk of the holidays. Keep in mind, these are super easy and basic challenges, and chances are they are all things you have done before...but badges are always fun! Spread the word and get your teaching partners or others to join GEG Michigan and play along! I just want to have the chance for some fun, and maybe some ideas on how you can use this type of challenge with your students or staff.

Rest up, enjoy the holidays, and keep an eye on this Topic after Christmas for the Sign Up Form!

Learn Some Easy Tech Tools & Have Some FUN!!!

Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to learn some helpful tech tools and earn awesome badges. Each week for 10 weeks I will post an easy and short tech challenge (some of which you might have already done before). Each challenge is posted with my "how-to" steps to help you succeed.

  • If you complete the challenge you will be awarded that challenge's badge to show off your awesomeness!
  • If you complete the challenge in the assigned week you will also earn a point to be added to the Leaderboard on the GEG Michigan Tech Challenge website (you will choose a username so others will not know who is in the competition if you want to remain secret).
  • If you complete the challenge any time after the due date you will earn .5 of a point.
  • After all the challenges are assigned anyone completing all the challenges (either on time or late) will receive a certificate. For those who are competitive (you know who you are), we will also see who can earn all 10 points on the Leaderboard.

Keep in mind, you can use anyone as a resource: friends, family, and even students!

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND:

  • You do not need to do every challenge, but they are posted every Monday at 7:00 am.
  • You can complete the challenge at any time (even past the week it is assigned) to earn the badge.
  • To earn the full point you must complete the challenge by that Sunday at 8:00 pm.
  • You can complete challenges after the due date for a 1/2 point.
  • There is no pressure and this is for fun, but it's a great chance to try something new.
  • Remember, you can ask for help from your friends, family, and even students.
  • This is just for FUN!

WHERE TO FIND CURRENT CHALLENGES:

Once you accept the Challenge you will get steps to add yourself to the GEG Michigan Tech Challenge Google Classroom. All communication will be through this Google Classroom. Make sure to enable notifications for this Classroom. When new Challenges are added every Monday morning at 7:00 am, you will receive an email. Get ready to get your Tech Geek On and have some FUN!

Just a heads up...

If you can't join the Google Classroom (you get a message saying you are not allowed) that means your district does not allow you to join other Domains' Google Classrooms. There are some ways around this.

You have 2 choices:
  1. Bring a plate of cookies to your Tech Director and ask them to open your Google Classroom access to other G Suite Domains. (You REALLY want this ability anyhow so you can join other districts' Classrooms. All your Tech Director has to do is click a switch in the Admin Console).
  2. Join the Classroom with your personal Gmail account.

Thank you to all those who signed up!
There is still room if anyone still wants to join!
Monday is the day the first Challenge will be posted at 7:00 AM!

If you still want to sign up, I will leave the Sign-Up Form live during the whole 10 week Challenge time. After filling it in the are directions in the Form to join the Tech Challenge Google Classroom. If you do not get the challenges done in the week they are assigned you will not get full points (only those competitive ones will care about that), but you will still get the badge. Also, if you work with staff or students and want to do a challenge with them you can take a look at this Classroom to see one way to run a challenge.

The first Challenge will be sent out through Google Classroom on Monday, January 11 at 7:00 am.

Hi GEG Michigan!
We are just working through Challenge #4 in the GEG Tech Challenge. If you want to see what the challenges are, feel free to check out the Tech Challenge Web Site  (you can see the Leaderboard and all the Challenges posted). So far we have done Image Editing (Removing Background), explored Jamboard, Played with around with some Whiteboard Sites, and are currently playing with Kami. There is much more to come! Follow along here to see the challenges as they are released each week!

You don't have to play to learn! All the steps and resources are shared on the site (bit.ly/GEGmiTechChallenge)!
