PERIÓDICOS temáticos ou com chamadas temáticas abertas:

1. Call for Papers

Thematic issue: “Metaphony and Umlaut: Theoretical Issues”

Projected to appear as an early issue of Phonology 42

Vowel harmony patterns that have traditionally been referred to as metaphony or umlaut have a long history of study within generative phonology. Interpreted broadly, these are patterns that target a strong or privileged position, such as a stressed syllable, and they may be non-iterative. Metaphony/umlaut-type systems pose special challenges for phonological theory, and as such, provide an important empirical domain in which to develop, test, and advance theoretical approaches. Metaphony/umlaut patterns have attracted recent attention because of their implications for phonological frameworks, positional licensing, segmental representations and their atomic elements, and intersections with morphology. The goal of this thematic volume is to shed light on these and other issues of significance for phonological theory through the investigation and analysis of metaphony/umlaut.

This thematic issue will be edited by Michela Russo (CNRS SFL /Paris & U. Lyon) and Rachel Walker (University of California, Santa Cruz). It is projected to appear as an early issue of Phonology 42.

The deadline for submissions is May 15, 2024

General information on the submission of manuscripts can be found on the Phonology website (http://journals.cambridge.org/pho). The call for papers can be accessed on the Phonology website here: https://www.cambridge.org/core/services/aop-file-manager/file/64f744c6bd4434b3f8e0e165. Submissions should be uploaded in PDF format to ScholarOne (https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/phonology). Contributors should feel free to contact the editors directly with questions at any time in the submission process, at mru...@univ-paris8.fr, rachel...@ucsc.edu, and phon...@cambridge.org. An abstract (no longer than 150 words) should be included. Preference will be given to papers that will occupy no more than 20 pages in the journal (around 8000 words). Submissions will be read by at least two external reviewers and an editor of the thematic issue.

2. Cadernos de Estudos Linguísticos (Unicamp)

Dossiê temático: "Teorias linguísticas formais e interfaces no Ensino Básico"

Editores convidados: Amanda Macedo Balduino (DL, UNICAMP; e-mail: aman...@unicamp.br) e Caio César Costa Ribeiro Mira (DL, UNICAMP; e-mail: caio...@unicamp.br)

Organizadoras: Maria Aline Rodrigues e Evanielle Freire

Editora Lupa

Prazo para submissão de textos: 10/06/2024

Todas as informações estão disponíveis neste link: https://www.editoralupa.com.br/2024/02/26/praticas-de-analise-linguistica-na-aula-de-portugues/

##5. CALR Linguistics Journal

Editor-in-Chief Hayat Al-Khatib, Professor of Applied Linguistics Arab Open University – Lebanon - hkh...@aou.edu.lb

Language controversies have been the focus of much debate in recent

studies (Lobin, 2021; Jabeen, Chandio & Qasim, 2020; Progovac, 2019).

Bouchard (2018) proposes that controversies in applied linguistics are

the result of clashes between different theoretical approaches.

Research-based debates on the nature of language acquisition, the

extent and influence of L1 on L2, the relationship between language

and thought, the existence of universal grammar, the role of language

in society and culture, and the accuracy of machine translation, are

but a few examples. Widely debated topics are perceived to attract

more arguments, possible theories and innovative interpretations.

The Centre for Applied Linguistics Research (CALR) at the Arab Open

University, invites linguists and researchers to probe into an area of

language controversy in an attempt to find threads within and across

disciplines that can clarify the area under investigation and

ultimately present studies that can contribute to new forms of

knowledge. Researchers are invited to present working papers, research

articles and case studies on:

•       Controversies over the nature of language acquisition

•       Bilingual/multilingual policies and practice

•       Any evidence on the first language affecting second language

proficiency

•       The relationship between language and thought

•       Language, media texts and interpretation

•       The existence of universal grammar

•       The role of language in society and culture

•       Accuracy in machine translation

•       Other language related controversies

Notes for authors

Submissions should be made in English, using APA version 7 format,

2020 edition. Abstract should be 300-400 words and full paper 5000 words.

Submissions should be made to CALR @aou.edu.lb

Important deadlines

Abstract submission should be received by Monday July 29, 2024.

Full paper submission should be received by Friday September 27, 2024.
