A data source is a source of data combined with the connection information that is required to access that data. Examples of data sources are SQL Server, Oracle RDBMS, a spreadsheet, and a text file. Examples of connection information include server location, database name, logon ID, password, and various ODBC driver options that describe how to connect to the data source. This information can be obtained from the administrator of the database to which you want to connect.

The Microsoft ODBC Desktop Database Drivers are a Microsoft Jet-based set of ODBC drivers. Whereas Microsoft ODBC Desktop Database Drivers 2.0 include both 16-bit and 32-bit drivers, versions 3.0 and later include only 32-bit drivers that work on Windows 95 or later, Windows NT Workstation or Server version 4.0, Windows 2000 Professional, or Windows 2000 Server. These drivers provide access to the following types of data sources:

There are cookbook recipes all over the place for accessing Jet databases from PHP, but they're red herrings - they all assume you're running PHP on a Windows machine with MS Access installed, and use the Windows-only ODBC driver for opening Jet ("access") files which is bundled with Access. No good to you on Linux.

The first one I speak of has a driver titled 'Driver do Microsoft Access (.mdb)', the second one has a driver titled 'Microsoft Access Driver (.mdb, .accdb)'. I access the first odbcad32.exe by going to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\odbcad32.exe, and then the one that seems to have the driver I need I go to Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Data Sources(ODBC) and simply create a new connection in the System DNS tab.

Whenever I make changes to the one that I access through the Control Panel, I see no changes, however if I use the odbcad32.exe file in SysWOW64 I do get some changes in the errors that come back to me. The main difference I noticed is that when I set up an ODBC connection with the Control Panel method it said it simply couldn't find the ODBC connection, but when I made a .mdb connection in the SysWOW64 one (and pointed it to a .accdb file) it says

I assume you mean microsoft server 2008 64 bits. For the deployment you have to install the proper version of odbc (64 or 32 bits) AND very likely install the microsoft visual studio runtime (32 or 64 bits). Be 100% sure to take the correct versions or it wont work.

Download and evaluate our driver today. You will be able to install the driver, set up a connection, and retrieve data* from your database using Excel or FileMaker. You will also have access to our on-line help and technical support.

We offer you optimal data access by means of ODBC and native database client libraries. However, you can avoid using client libraries, since our ODBC drivers are able to connect via the native protocol directly without using client software at all.
