Hello all!

The official letter from Philabundance came in the mail today. We
collected 1240 lbs of food for them!!!!! More than we even
estimated.

*happy dance*

That is so awesome.  On the heels of that huge success, I guess we need to look at dates to get together and start planning our next project.  Any suggestions?

You read my mind. I just went to the Philadelphia Futures annual conference and am all pumped. I'd like to see if we can push out word about them this coming week.

I think a way to start would be to post that letter I wrote (I'll dig up the links again) on the geeks who give blog and then drive people to it via twitter, facebook, etc. The goal being to get "the geeks" to sign up as mentors. We don't necessarily need an event, though we could have an event and invite futures to come try to recruit.

This org is obviously close to my heart, but I'm open for anything.

That sounds like an excellent idea, and exactly what i had in mind. I appreciate you taking initiative on this Stephen
:)

I'll take another look at the letter and see how it can be adapted for the blog. While I agree that another event is not necessary - some sort of culmination point might be helpful, any thoughts on what that could be?

Thanks everyone,
Kara

Re: geeks as mentors-

There's a ton of idea confluence going on here.  Chris B. is huge on the power of mentorship, and I've been talking to a few local developers about the power of mentorship in their lives.

We were looking at baking a mentorship relationship structure into the functionality of vBIG so that mentors can track volunteer hours and projects/relationships and be entered into the pool of potential honorees for reward ceremonies and local press opportunities.

Mayor Nutter and his wife are HUGE into mentorship. It's a personal cause for both of them, and therefore an opportunity for GWG.  Check out this video of Nutter speaking on the topic.

Best,

Jordan
