Hey everyone:

Not to be dissonant, but just a heads up that brunch at Nat Mechanic's ends at 3pm. And I'm a bigg fan of brunch (as is Bianca). Any other suggestions for a location?

Best,
Julia

3:00 at National Mechanics on Saturday works for me, and we certainly want
to be sure that you will be there, Stephen!

also, i got ridiculed (outside of gwg) for my movie choice, so feel free to
brainstorm / come with potential movie choices of your own (in case we
choose to go that route) also venues which would lend themselves to either a
presentation style event or potential movie night. And of course, any
alternative ideas you might have :)

starting to feel the ramp up - can you tell? haha

thank you all for the flexibility. 3:00 on Saturday, it is.

somehow, i don't think they'll turn us away :)

plus, most brunches close around 2... so nat's might still be our best bet. Also, get there a little early to get your grub on! (that is honestly what i plan to do :)

I'm not sure that I can attend- I'm getting ready for the Ideablob contest for VolunteerBIG - which I'll be entering starting Sunday.  Kara- will you be doing a synopsis of the conversation, as you did last time, for those that can't make it?

Would anyone have time to help me get the word out for VBIG on ideablob?  RT's and forwarded emails will probably do the trick.  For those who don't know, VBIG is a platform designed to lower the bar for providing meaningful contributions of skills and knowledge to causes that are important to you.  It will be perfect for a project like Philly Futures once we're up and running.   We're making it fun, and increasing incentive by making giving back social, flexible (advise from your living room or go to events) and personalized while ensuring that people get recognized for the work they do.

If you have any questions- please let me know.

I'm looking forward to working with everyone, and hopefully will be in a position to make Saturday work.

Jordan, One of us usually posts a recap, as we are all very busy people, and difficult to get all in one spot at one time, so no worries on that end.

Just a side note - I would avoid the term "lower the bar" as that generally connotes lowering the quality of something, and I am assuming that you do in fact want to raise the bar - or the quality of the volunteer resources available to our community. Perhaps the idea or phrase you are searching for is lowering the barrier to entry? Or perhaps, making it more ubiquitous or easier to use? I am sure you can come up with better language that won't lead to an unfortunate turn of phrase.

Basically it sounds like you are taking the Akoha approach, which is to make doing good a basis for social netowrking, and I really love the idea!

all the best,
Kara

Thanks Kara- You're spot on.  Barrier to entry was exactly the term I didn't use, but wanted to.

But in the meantime, I lowered the bar of communication, which was great.

If you'd like to read my mind on other things that I'm trying to say, I'd appreciate it much :)

haha, take care

This is bringing me back to the late 80s and early 90s, when I used
mailing lists a lot.

If people don't find it too much trouble, can you please delete the
entire text of the reply if it does relate to your post? It takes
forever for me
to scroll through the daily digest, and I'm afraid I may be missing
things.

So if you wouldn't mind, before you start your post, Control-A or
Apple-A, delete the reply text, and start writing!

Thanks from Denver! Chris
