What if we set some sort of deadline for applications? We announce that our goal is XX applicants by the end of the day(?), week (?). We ask everyone who does apply to let us know on twitter/facebook/the blog, etc that they have done so that we can keep track and so that their network knows what they're doing (hopefully pushing the people in those networks to also apply).
at the end of the week, we make the announcement of how many applications were submitted and post the names on the blog as a thank you (with permissions, natch).
I'm also wondering if we can get those who aren't able to sign up as mentors, to donate their time in other ways like by teaching graphic design/programming/video editing/geekstuff seminars to groups of these students. I haven't asked Futures if they need things like that, but I imagine they'd be interested. My current "mentee" wants to be a video game designer even though he has no idea what that means.
we could easily wrap some sort of happy hour event into this by offering drink specials to all who donate their time. if we wanted to.

That sounds like an excellent idea, and exactly what i had in mind. I appreciate you taking initiative on this Stephen
:)
I'll take another look at the letter and see how it can be adapted for the blog. While I agree that another event is not necessary - some sort of culmination point might be helpful, any thoughts on what that could be?
Thanks everyone,

You read my mind. I just went to the Philadelphia Futures annual conference and am all pumped. I'd like to see if we can push out word about them this coming week.
I think a way to start would be to post that letter I wrote (I'll dig up the links again) on the geeks who give blog and then drive people to it via twitter, facebook, etc. The goal being to get "the geeks" to sign up as mentors. We don't necessarily need an event, though we could have an event and invite futures to come try to recruit.
This org is obviously close to my heart, but I'm open for anything.
That is so awesome. On the heels of that huge success, I guess we need to look at dates to get together and start planning our next project. Any suggestions?
