Forgive me for taking a few days to send this, but I just wanted to
let you all know that the second GWG event was another success. Kara,
Futures and I are still getting the official tally together, but I can
say that we think 40-50 people attended TMoms and donated about 140
items of school supplies. We filled a moving box with all of the
things that people donated. Futures was incredibly excited by all the
goodies and everybody's generosity.

They were also extremely excited by the fact that three men signed up
as mentors during the event, and I know of at least two women who
signed up prior to the event and who are on their way to being matched
with students. Those five confirmed mentor applications are a HUGE
deal to Futures. Hopefully, in the weeks to come we can "convert" some
more people who expressed an interest.

Keep an eye out for a more official recap, but in the meantime know
that GWG has another fan in the Philly non-profit world. We rule.

What's next?

Steve,

Thanks for the update!  That is AWESOME news!  I'm so happy to hear the event went well.  I wish I could have been there, it sounds like it was a blast.  What is planned in the way of follow-up with the attendees to see if more mentors can be recruited for Futures?

Congratulations on such a successful event! I second Steve's call to action - What's next?

Hey Stephen,

I'm working on the follow up blog post, which will be up shortly, that will hopefully encourage people to participate with Philadelphia Futures in several different ways, depending on their personal comfort levels. Based on feedback I've gotten from the community, everyone had a really good time, so sounds like it was an all around success!

Continuing our conversation from this afternoon regarding volunteer efforts, and mobilizing people power to do something awesome - I was just talking with Jess Victor. She's been really involved in Habitat For Humanity in the past, and expressed interest in organizing something within this community. She is going to be sending me some info soon, hopefully it will be something that is doable.

Workin' away ;)
