Yesterday's meeting was Excellent! We mad a lot of headway, and I for
one am extremely excited. We Gave form (and energy) to the
Philadelphia Futures GwG event, and I think we are all going to get
extremely excited about it :)

Game Night!

What does that mean? I think we are all open to everyone's input.
Board games, card games, mind games, (Werewolf anyone?) I think we
have enough to fire up the basecamp for this event - there we can
start a list of games that people have, or things we would like to
include. etc. Thoughts included were round robin based concepts to
keep people moving, but I kinda think that will happen naturally.

Tmoms seems the obvious choice, but if anyone has other (or back up)
suggestions, we are totally open to that. The date will be based on
the availability of the venue, though I am sure Tmoms will be
extremely flexible. We are thinking March But SXSW might be a factor.
Does it make more sense to do it before or wait until after? Also - Do
we want to do something After work, or possibly a Sunday Afternoon?

The goals of the event are to Raise Awarenes for Philadelphia Futures,
and to get people to Volunteer as Mentors. This will be attained
through PF staff attendence, GwG outreach to the community- providing
information, and Facilitating the Sign up process. All of the above to
be applied to during, around, before, and after the actual event.
Admission for the event will be items on the PF Wish List Items (to be
confirmed with PF's current needs).

Areas of Group Input:

* Game Ideas
* Alternate Venue:
o possibly closer to CC
o Kid Friendly?
* Day of the Week:
o Sunday Afternoon
o Weeknight Afterwork
* March:
o Before SXSW
o After SXSW

Tasks already assigned

* Kara: BaseCamp for Gamenight
* Kara: contact Rob @ Tmoms
* Kara: Blog Articles (Library post for Monday, Kick off PF post
later this week)
* Stephen: contact Philadelphia Futures re: wishlist & event
* Melissa: to Provide the Philabundance Letter and Sign Up list
from December Event.
* Everyone: to provide input on items listed above
* Everyone: w00t! hahaha ;)

Other people took notes, so if I left anything out, I apologize - this
is all from my rather cold-addled memory :D We did try to avoid to
much fine tuning to allow for more general structure to fall in to
place. It was great to see some new faces at the meeting, a trend
which I hope continues as GwG grows.

Peace,
Kara

 Thanks Kara, you are quick!   I was just typing up the notes when I got your email. :-)

My personal thought is to wait until after SXSW.  A lot of people will be so focused on getting ready to go to that event it might be difficult to get their full attention.  After SXSW, they will be energized & focused so our message may spread easier.

I'm also putting out a request to everyone to help spread the word about Twestival.  it is not an official Geeks Who Give event, but everyone's help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

"Thoughts included were round robin based concepts to keep people
moving, but I kinda think that will happen naturally." I agree that
trying to organise some sort of rule or mechanism to keep things
moving would probably make it too forced (nobody likes a game-nazi).
Prizes will be incentive enough for people to play.

Speaking of incentives, we should probably add "source donors for
prizes" to our list of tasks. And we need a name for the event. I
have some thoughts on both, but will wait for Basecamp to go up in
order to keep this topline and short.

Prizes? I thought we agreed to forgo that thinking that people will
partcipate for the love of the game. Haha

Something we might want to revisit.

Hey ya'll.

For clarity-  will there be like 10 types of games going on at the same time..or is there going to be one big game w/ a DJ, or what exactly is the ambiance that we're going for.

Depending upon the answer, I have a few ideas.

10 types of games going on i'm not a fan of DJs but house music in the background I would imagine.

The ambiance is Fun & social! lolz

btw - kjust waiting on the basecamp as we were using someone's account, to see what we can do moving froward (preferably without having to pay or get a new account)

Thanks for your patience all! And keep those ideas flowing :D

clarification - I love DJs just not at networking gigs, where we are trying to talk to people and vice versa :)

My thoughts exactly.  But I'm just thinking a bunch of people sitting around playing games without music may end up feeling like a retirement home until people get a little sauced.

Let me know if we want cool lighting in the colored water with bubbles style or similar.
