After quite a bit of digging around I've found another similar group in
Liverpool that just had their first meeting last week.
http://norweb.cnuk.org/
The only difference is that they want to focus on free/open source
technologies and a lot of us are microsofties. I've emailed one of the
organisers about the possibility of joining forces.

Yea, they had their first meeting the other day but I wasn't able to
attend it as I was already out on that night...

I guess it depends what you want out of the group... is it a few beers
with techy types like GeekUp or a full blown user group with talks
every month... maybe a mixture of both :) It will be interesting to
hear what they say anyway...

Matt Lee says that they "have no interest whatsoever in proprietary technologies". So I think the fact that we're willing to talk about microsoft stuff is putting them off, but they're happy to swap links, so people attending that group will know about this one.

The venue we have lined up is a bar and a conference room with presentation facilites and net access. So people can bring their laptops and show some stuff, or we could just drink, or any combination of the two.

We seem to have a preference for wednesdays, is everyone happy with that? If so I'll find out when we can get the room, it'll probably be in a couple of weeks.
