How's things going everyone? Just thought I'd check in on the branding
progress. I'm not expecting anything but wanted to keep things at the
front of your brain so we can move on to the next phase.

Any updates, ideas or suggestions?

I guess my email didnt go through. I linked a final version of the logotype a few color swatches. I'll send again when I'm home for the day.

I put together all of the logos I could find based on brian's list of
possible events during the week and put them all together on a page.

Then using my color-detect-o-tron 9150, I analyzed the most common
colors from the set. Someone had said earlier we should try and not
have it clashing too much. Which, I half agree, so maybe a similar
color palette will help things that way.

Ben,

Would you be interested in sketching out another logo concept based mostly on your original floating AZ?

I *like* the pocket protector angle, but the biggest gripe from people is that it doesn't directly represent all events well enough -- mainly the non-nerdy ones like AZEC & Ignite.

So what if we took the floating AZ in your sketch and dressed it up in various ways to personify a stereotypical attendee of the events. The base avatar would be the state and the shadow, and we could just add some arms (perhaps stick-figure black lines) and hands (perhaps Disney style white gloves) -- eyes or any other facial features not required but could be included.

We could then have a few variations with props or clothing/accessories, based on events. Nerdier events could have big horn-rimmed glasses or a pocket protector. A business event like AZEC could have a tie and/or a suitcase. A speaking/presentation event like Ignite could have a microphone and maybe even a small projector screen behind it.

Just brainstorming out loud.

Brian,
Love the idea of "accessorizing" the logo. I wouldn't mind sketching them out at all.

It might be just me, but I'm not a big fan of mascots. I'd prefer
something more text based or icon based. Just my 2 cents

Well keep brainstorming, I won't get to sketching until later tonight or tomorrow.

I'd like to comment that if you guys have all this free time, how about helping me brand an event that already exists and needs a real facelift? The Fourth Annual Arizona Entrepreneurship Conference. I invited Loic leMeur this morning, and I really would like to have a spiffier site for him to check us out on:-)

Kinda like I still need dev.podcampaz.org updated with the latest grid images.

Francine, GeekWeek/Podcamp get my lunch breaks, Design Week & other stuff gets my after hours.  But I suppose I can help out if you want, take a bit off from one or the other. Just means less time for the ladies. (and by ladies I mean for me to sit alone on the couch watching HGTV)

Here's another concept sketch I created while at Gankplank North. Got a chance to collaborate with Brent which was nice.

Have at it!

Good suggestions on removing the border. Here's another version sans-border:

I think having a line around it would be good too. Like this or maybe with 09.  I do like your base idea, and the Sunny one. :)

Ok try this. Credit goes to Ben, Chuck, and Alan. I can't post a pic in comments so here is a link to my photostream.

If you have the line it kind of looks like a shield. Would make great badges.

I vectorized it. I think when it has the logotype, dont have to worry about the W as much.
