Thismethod requires you to have a powerful PC (with minimum CPU of 4 cores and 8GB RAM) to run 2 or more multiple clients of MapleStory smoothly. Previously, hardcore MapleStory players create multiple Windows User accounts (login and logout temporarily) within a single PC which is kinda of a hassle but this method was patched. Another old school method was to setup 1 MapleStory client in each PC or Laptop so that they can have their mule (e.g. Beast Tamer/Bishop/Phantom) to buff up their main character for additional stats to increase their damage, EXP rate, etc. This method still works today but incurs higher electricity consumption. Some players might not have the luxury to own more than 1 PC/Laptop. Therefore, these players turned to running MapleStory on VMWare (aka Virtual Machine). This method can also apply to other MMORPG (Massively multiplayer online role-playing game).

The methods below requires you to edit your registry, therefore, before you start poking into the system registry, its best to backup its state, so you can revert back should you modified it incorrectly.

Unable to patch due to missing/deleted MapleStory Video Cut Scenes

If you deleted your .avi video files in MapleStory installation folder to skip cut scenes like I did you may need these to update to v145 if you deleted them completely. All you have to do is unpack them into your nexon folder.

I have read your whole post. I am working on a project where we are using VMWare Workstation to run multiple MapleStory Clients in one machine and it works perfectly fine.

hello ayumi have a problem , when play maplestory in wmware , have problems in anyones maps when am in party , me freeze and dc the game in the wmware or in anyones cases in my ms principal , know of this problem , yes have a answer pls need know of this i am search a solution in distints pagines and watching videos but not meeting the solution

@Philip: I have tested VMWare on MapleStory with Intel 5820K (6 cores at 4GHz) with 32GB RAM and it works as expected. You may need a powerful desktop that has more than 4 cores to run multiple VMs smoothly on 1 machine.

@knight: Tested working for MapleSEA using Vmware. What operating system are you using for both your host and virtual machine? Also, have you perform the necessary changes with the provided script above?

Tried with VMWare 14 Pro with a Windows 10 OS worked fine, Windows 10 ISO can be downloaded from Microsoft website if needed. Had trouble with no internet connection but changing the setting in VMWare from NAT to bridged solved it.

@David: Sorry, I do not have any idea on how to fix it. Perhaps you can try reinstalling MapleStory on the newly created Windows 7 Operating System (OS). Otherwise, the workaround would be using Windows 10. If you are running on more than 4 core system, it should definitely help in smoothing the lag. For my case, I dedicated 2 cores and 8GB ram for the VM Guest OS.

Other internet related issues.

Maplestory relays on running flash items, wat i recommend is after installing windows to first download Firefox and set it as default (just close it and reopen and it should ask) This allows Maplestory to use the html5 stuff from there to run wat ever its needed.

It displays this as an internet error so its a bit tricky

@all: Tested working on my PC Windows 10 Pro as guest OS using VMWare Workstation 12 Pro on May 9th 2017. Able to run MapleStory smoothly with Intel 5820K 6 core CPU (Intel Virtualization Technology enabled + Intel VT-d enabled). Will be revising the guide above on how to obtain smoother gameplay.

every time i run it through the Nexon Launcher or the GAME LAUNCHER directly

I followed all the steps I only have a win7 for my VMWare and I get an error each time I start this nexon launcher on the VM:

Error: An unknown network error has occured.

Any ideas ?

@Hugo Martez: Try logging into MapleStory one PC at a time first, with full screen (not window). If full screen does not work, try window mode. If this works, you will need at least 2 monitors (1 for your client and one for VM/Virtual-Machine).

I see the Nexon + Wizet logo fine, then see the Maplestory Logo for the cutscene, but then the screen freezes and either freezes on this logo or goes black, which after 10 minutes, disconnects me from the game.

Why does maplestory start up so very slow? I have enough ram to support it putting 2 cores and 4gb of ram on it. My host has a 6 core and 8 gigs of ram on it. I also moved the maplestory from my host to my guestos, maybe that is effecting it?

Locating virtual machine files on a Windows host:

The default location for virtual machine files is the folder My Virtual Machines in the My Documents folder of the home directory of the user who created the virtual machines. If you are logged in as this user, you can:

1. Select Start>Run. The Run dialog appears.

2. Type %userprofile% .

3. Click OK to see the home directory.

This returns directory paths to all virtual machine configuration files. Based on the name of the virtual machine whose files you are looking for, use Windows Explorer to navigate to the location of the directory containing its .vmx file.

For the location of the virtual disk files, look in the directory where the configuration file (.vmx) is located. If there are no .vmdk files there or you suspect that there are not enough .vmdk files to account for the number of virtual disks for this virtual machine, edit the configuration file in a text editor. Search this file for all lines of text ending in .vmdk . Any virtual disk files that are not located in the current directory have their full path listed on this line of text.

@Ciffan: What machine are you running with MapleStory in VM and also the specification of it (example: Intel i7 6th /AMD xx GHz CPU, XX RAM. For me, I ran with 8GB RAM allocated per VM running with an Intel CPU 3770K 4.2GHz no lag. Only starting and playing MapleStory lags.

I followed your guild and it works very well, just that after 2 weeks, the vmware becomes very laggy, impacting host pc as well. I tried re-install the virtual machine again, it lasts for two weeks again.

Is it the KNOWN BUGS/ISSUES you mentioned? but in my case, the VMware itself is laggy before opening maplestory.

@Matt: Ensure both your host and VM task manager does not have MapleStory running in the background. This also includes closing any other MapleStory related programs like HackShield/BlackCipher running in the task manager.

@ray: Error Code = 207 / Initialization Error (0x00000207) / WinLicense /Thermidia: Sorry, this application cannot run under a Virtual Machine.

HackShield error 207 occurs when it has detected that it is operating in a virtual machine environment. In order to prevent or reduce hacking, virtual machines are discouraged from use.

This error may also occur if you have the game set to run in compatibility mode for another Operating System. Please disable compatibility mode options before playing.

Hey, Thanks for this guide, i am getting an error after i press play. a hackshield error saying that another maplestory is opened even though i dont have it opened anywhere else. (in the vmware)

I cant seem to copy and paste maplestory into my vm. and i have horrible internet so to install maple on manually would take forever. i just want to know if theres anything i have to do before i intall?

@LWB: The .vmx file is located at the place where you have specified to save the OS Installation Folder when you install it in your VMWare. Use Notepad++, Sublime or regular Notepad from Windows to open and edit the VMX file. Hope that helps ?

take note that i have been playing maplesea on my macbook vmware for almost a year.

so i have no problem playing all the time until the recent patch for maplesea.

which after the patch complete, im unable to start my maple with the hackshield error appearing.

@Ageko: Probably that would be the easiest way around for having to play more than 1 characters. There are some hardcore players who have 2-3 laptops used to create a mini-bot party just to fulfill the party quest requirement (e.g. Ludibrium PQ / Orbis PQ / Romeo and Juliet PQ) instead of waiting for players to join them, or have a Phantom character to perform HS/HyperBody/Rage/etc buff skills ?

Im done creating a Guest OS , how do I get Maplestory on the Guest OS ? I cant drag and drop it because VMware tools installation keeps getting an eror called : The Microsoft Runtime DLL installer failed to complete the installation.

Please disable compatibility mode options before playing.

Please ensure that your .vmx file is edited correctly and you are running the same version as your current Windows OS to reduce any issues that may occur. Also double check if you have missed out cleaning up the Guest OS registry (search for VMWare SVGA or any graphic drivers that contains VMWare) or depending on the VM software that you used to install MapleStory.

In both the Guest OS and the Host, Task Manager shows no instances of any Maple-related processes, yet I get that same error whenever I launch MapleStory within VMWare. Everything works fine on the Host OS.
