Title says it all.
Have, for me, a big file wherein I would like to move ONLY a smaller number of the individuals.
Is there a  way of doing this?

Yes. Previous email pointed to help that would explain more, but here two options:

1. Create album in one file and add records you want to merge into other file. Then when merging, choose records from that album instead of all records. (equivalently, you could export that album to a new file and them merge in all records of that file)

2. If small number of records, just select them in one file and drag to the other. Only feature unavailable when dragging is to attach a note to each record. It still creates a folder with all merged records and will include all other records needed by those dragged individual, or other record types, as well.

Note that internally both these options use identical code. Just pick the one that is easiest (I like drag and drop myself).

John, I have done a considerable amount of merging  and have found that it goes gread IF all the records to be merged are EXACT of the primary information or blank. When I merge I first pull out the subset that is to be merged and compare it to my base file, making corrections using the base file as copy/paste. Also, if the file to be merged DATES are more then 5 years out they will not merge.
Even after a merge, I have found that I always miss some somehow and they usually show the primary data twice; i.e. two names because one is even one character different, two DOB/DOD which is the most common but usually only a day to a year (remember the  calendar update to replace leap years that were not leaps (14 days were added) BUT some places used different criterea as to when that update was done and some even the number of days to be done; POB/POD because even one character is different. You will always have to find the NOTES and either delete one while HAND correcting the other just because two people will never write something the same way. SInce I do not do Media, I have no experience with that whatsoever but everything is in the notes and not images at all.
