Att - Moderators (John Nairn?)

The latest post about dryer vent cleaning seems to be an advert for a service that has nothing to do with the primary topic of the group ie the Geditcom package.
I regard it as spam.

This would be a breach of group rules in other forums and groups I am in.
Is it here because it has not yet been noticed the moderator/s?
Or
Is it a permitted activity in this Group?
If the latter I will say no more.

Cheers,
Jeff Armstrong
PS The joke is on them; I'm to even on the same continent as this spammer!

I emailed support privately, but I’ll reply here as well. I belong to and moderate several such groups and have seen this identically-worded posting in virtually all of them. We always delete the post and remove or block the moronic troll who posted it.

That was my feeling but I am not a moderator so it is not my call.
I am not a big user of this forum as my usage is very simplistic and I rarely run into issues that I help or need help for.

Funnily enough I have hit one of those issues just today but I will post it in a new thread to prevent confusion.

Hi Jeff,

I do look for spam. The issue is hearing about them. I get email when someone posts to the group, but for some reason I do not get such an email when a spammer posts to the group. Somehow spammers know how to post without the moderator hearing about it?

Google used to flag obvious spam (and sometimes obvious good emails too) and ask me to approve or reject. They seem to have given up on that process. Maybe their Gemini AI is not very good yet at detecting spam?

John, you do great! I have 10k unread emails in my inbox, most are spam as a result of my university position. It’s too bad that you have to deal with them. I’ve gotten pretty good at ignoring them.

It’s rare when I can write a developer and get a thoughtful response.

All the best!
