Dear sir/ madam,

Greetings of the day!

MSMEs are the backbone of the global economy. They represent about 90% of businesses. They are critical for Vikshit Bharat and achieving net zero climate action outcomes. MSME in India, accounts for 30% of GDP and 49.5% of exports. As per estimates MSME sector generates around 110 million tonnes of Carbon dioxide equivalent greenhouse gas emissions. MSMEs are critical in value chains.
They can play a very important role in contributing to India’s Net Zero by 2070 goal. MSMEs are constrained by a lack of appropriate tools and knowledge to start their journey towards more sustainable and resilient outcomes. Against this backdrop the awareness generation workshop is planned.

The objectives are:
 1. To create awareness and undertake initial capacity building for MSMEs about GHG
emissions and potential measures to reduce the same.
 2.  To know about options with important stakeholders like Financial Institutions, Central & State Governments, Industry Associations, and Brands & Corporates to support MSMEs for taking action on GHG emissions reduction.
 3. To encourage MSMEs to initiate action on GHG emissions reduction via net-zero
commitments.

Expected benefits to MSMEs which are part of the value chain :

1. Adoption of net zero processes makes their products environment friendly and carbon efficient for competitive advantage to supply the higher levels in value chains
2. their products become compliant with environmental standards and regulations in many countries including Europe and USA
3. they become better equipped for accessing green finance and thereby reducing cost of finance
4. their brand value as environmentally responsible and climate sustainable MSME improves
5. they are perceived as not profiteering entities but caring about future generations
