Dear Gecode users community,

It is with great sadness that we have to inform you that the creator of Gecode, and our good friend, Christian Schulte passed away on Tuesday, 17th March. We are sure that you all appreciate the immense contribution he has left us. The Association for Constraint Programming has set up an in memoriam page that you may want to have a look at here: https://www.a4cp.org/christian-in-memoriam

We want to express our sincere thanks to those of you who have reached out in the last week for your warm, heartfelt words about Christian. As two of his early PhD students, and co-contributors to Gecode, we feel proud to have worked with him, grateful for all the things he taught us, and privileged to be able to continue the project. Should you have any concerns about your use of Gecode, or just want to have a chat about Christian, feel free to contact us.

Sad news,

I haven't had the chance to know Mr. Schulte personally. Only through too few exchanges about Gecode. I imagine the loss that this represents for his family, close ones, friends and the CP community.
I think many users are wondering what will become of Gecode but maybe it is too early to talk about it ...
Anyway, very sad news.
Marcus

Dear Marcus,

thanks for your kind words. Regarding the future of Gecode, it's still an important tool for my own research, and we have many students and research fellows using it for their work, so we will do our best to keep the project going.
