Within every other GNU/Linux distribution I have tried, the Catfish File Search program has been included as a default program.

It is not present within GeckoLinux (openSUSE) (I am using the Tumbleweed installation).

I tried installing it from the web but the program, as installed, does not function the way it does on other distros. For example, it is not possible to delete a file once having found it. (I have subsequently removed the program.)

Is there another program which is equivalent to Catfish File Search in function about which I do not know? I would really like to have a program such as that one as I find it to be very useful.

Thank you.

Hi Lawrence,

You might try both versions that some OBS users have packaged here:
https://software.opensuse.org/package/catfish
One is probably the older version that you are probably accustomed to.

Another alternative might be: mate-search-tool or gnome-search-tool

Thanks! The mate-search-tool works fine. Is there a way to create an opening command or icon to be placed within the Menu? (I'm sure there is but I don't know how to do it in openSUSE.)

Hi there, mate-search-tool should be available automatically in the menu.

I'm using Gecko Linux XFCE. I opened Yast2 and installed gnome-search-tool and gnome-shell-search-provider-nautilus. It works fine, just like Catfish.
