Hello how was the holiday break
I'm puzzled as to why this happened , a second time .
Here is how it went downhill , went to terminal and got the updates since last weekend after that was finished proceeded to restart the desktop ( led to believe that is good ) and instead of GLTumbleweed all I got was a blackscreen with the cursor looking very lonesome so I waited and after 5 minutes went outside ( hoping for inspiration not frustration ) left this as is for all up about 15 minutes and no change on the blackscreen got fed up and gave the desktop a hard reboot nah same thing blackscreen ok hard reboot again and went to recovery mode restart all the left side in the brackets deemed green ok fine then that just hung there not fine , waited ... again nothing so hard reboot again nop nothing blackscreen .
Put the live disk in cd draw and this where at now live disk , this time I am not going to reinstall GLT too many apps and things to to take far too much time instead I will wait to see if there is an answer for this as ( PLEASE )
I don't want to shift away from GLT ( here is that word ) BUT if this cannot be fixed what choice do I have .
I cannot cope with this sort of epic failure , I would like to get my artwork done not continuously reinstall a rolling distro and all the apps I use so I can seriously get some work done instead of constant repairs to this machine , any time the update decides to have a ( use a word you think is appropriate  Here ) .
The last time this happened oh ah sorry the first time this failure happened was about 3 to 5 weeks ago I thought it was something I might have done this time I know for sure there was no input from me nothing just update and restart , don't remember exact date I have too busy setting up everything and sorting out so as to get artwork done .
Just got to the point where I've caught up sort of and BAM again ? ohh for the love of
But also not looking forward to having to reinstall again nop
This time I will wait for a fixit because the hard drive I have left it as is ( running Live CD ) yeah it's not usable until it's fixed so why try to mess with it there no other option , reinstalling takes far too much time and effort that could be directed towards something more productive .
So any ideas on how to fix this blackscreen after updates on Gecko Linux Tumbleweed will be very very welcome.

Things happen AND I never lost any files having only the operating system on the tower's hard drive with then two external harddrives one for all paperwork files pdf's and all the art files  etc etc the other harddrive has only my music then the third harddrive ( only online when in use ) is only for all files "back in time" back ups that's how I was told is probably one of the good  ways to store everything , I learn't the hard way once not to store files with or on the same harddrive as the operating system and most importantly if you don't back-up your file you never had them ... should something happen .

So to a Happy New Year and best wishes to all Geckos

Looking forward
Hoping for a fixit .

In that case, you can hit the E key on the GRUB entry and where it shows "quiet splash", delete those words, and then type the number 0 and then hit F10 to boot that.

Hiya if by grub entry you mean that black screen that pops up for quarter of a second and getting that with the E key well good luck to you because dammed if i could get it even tried repeatedly hittin the E key nop no good just went to the options page for the disk and that got hit with the E key as well, well let me guess that is it then is it or is there something else i can try to do .

Hi again, in that case, you could use the live USB to chroot into the install system and make the necessary changes. However, in your case I'd probably recommend that you simply backup your data and re-install.

Hi Noel, to answer that we would need more information about the hardware that you are running, and logs from the system that isn't booting correctly. Additionally, I would recommend that you install one of the STATIC editions of GeckoLinux, which is much less likely to result in unexpected changes and has much lower maintenance.

I don't have the knowledge about deep end computing , experience with or the patience with machinery like these I just use the software and thats it
sssssssssoooooooooo
Thanks for all you have done Sam and still working hard as a one man show but this was too much hassle I think for everyone and not getting any artwork done was ah just not good for me not good  so I went walkabout and ended up at LinuxMint 18.2 had the disk sitting in draw for some time forgot it was there got that just before finding GLT  and hoping all that is mish-mash is over . that is it for now but one day ( in foreseeable future ) I will send you the GIFs and wallpapers I am working on for GLT and maybe even come back after I get a New  Tougher Tower and I can handle kde  and I find you all still here , so when you see an attached file to a post from me no no no  I'll get your detail at that time then and send them privately , If that's OK .
and Sam may 2018
be the best ever seen
heh I'm a poet
and I know it
hope I don't blow it

Thanks a lot Noel, much appreciated. As I mentioned before, I would recommend in your case that you install GeckoLinux STATIC, which will be considerably more hassle-free for you.
