Dear Sam,

I see that a new download for the Static version is available. Do you have an estimate as to when a new download for the GeckoLinux Tumbleweed version will become available as well? Thanks.

Hi Lawrence, hopefully sometime this month.

I have enjoyed Gecko very much with the static versions on my laptop, however leap 42.1 doesn't play well with my desktop so I am also looking forward to trying out your tumbleweed version. Thank you for all the work you put into this project.

edit: The reason my desktop doesn't like leap 42.1 seems to be with the newer nvidia gpu that came with the desktop. So I'm hoping just having an updated base will improve that. Will gecko rolling have the new nvidia repo in it? https://news.opensuse.org/2017/09/20/new-repository-caters-to-tumbleweeds-nvidia-users/

Hi there, the current GeckoLinux Static editions are based on Leap 42.3, not 42.1. As for the Rolling editions, I am actively working on them, but there are some fairly major issues with Tumbleweed at the moment that are preventing me from releasing the GeckoLinux Rolling spins.

Dear Sam,

Will these major issues you mention preclude the release of a new ISO for the Tumbleweed version this month? You had said that you were hoping to have the release ready some time this month (January 2018). Can you give some more detail as to the nature of the issues and the progress you are making in addressing them? And are we still looking for a January release?

I now have two computers on which I want to install GeckoLinux Tumbleweed and I am anxiously awaiting the new release (one of those computers has Nvidia installed).

Obviously I like GeckoLinux Tumbleweed very much.

Thanks for any information you can share -- and good luck.

Hi Lawrence, I'm currently working on a major bug with the LightDM login manager, which won't show the usernames. Also there were bug changes with the Mesa driver packages, leading to a lot of users not being able to log in to Gnome/Cinnamon/Plasma after they upgraded. I was also having issues with long delays during login. Finally, I was working through integration problems with the old yast2-live-installer, but then Tumbleweed released an update that appears to have definitively broken support for the old installer, which will now be dropped.

If you really want to install GeckoLinux right now, I would suggest installing one of the STATIC versions and then upgrading it to Tumbleweed. It's always a relatively simple and very reliable process.

Dear Sam,

Well January has come and gone with no new Tumbleweed ISO. I know that you're having some major problems but do you think a February release may be possible? The computers on which I want to install GeckoLinux Tumbleweed will not be absolutely necessary for me to use regularly for a couple of months; that's why I'm waiting for the new ISO. I want you to know that I appreciate all of the hard work you put into creating an maintaining GeckoLinux and that my wife and I thank you very much for this distribution.

Best of luck.

Thanks Lawrence for saying thanks. The end of February is looking more likely at this point for a release. Thanks for your patience.
