Hi everyone, I'm pleased to announce another update to the GeckoLinux Plasma
NEXT edition. The purpose of this edition is not to replace the regular GeckoLinux
Static
Plasma release, but rather as an alternative for those who want the
latest Plasma stable release on top of a stable openSUSE Leap base. This
is achieved thanks to some additional OBS repositories together with
the polished GeckoLinux configuration for the Plasma desktop. Like all
GeckoLinux editions, Plasma
NEXT can be smoothly updated from the
official repositories of openSUSE and Packman as new package versions
become available. In the case of the Plasma
NEXT edition, the
next major release of Plasma 5 will also be available from the official
KDE repositories in the openSUSE Build Service whenever it is released
at a future date.
What's new: The major objective of this release is to ship the latest version of the
Calamares installer and its dependent libraries. This will hopefully
resolve the issues that some users have experienced with EFI
installations and/or LUKS volumes. Additional bug fixes from the
upstream openSUSE and Packman repositories have also been included. Also the KDE Applications repository has a new URL, now included by default. Other Plasma and KDE package version updates come from the included OBS repos for KDE.
