I'm trying to understand Google Gears. I'm using the "go_offline.html"
app from the tutorial. I'm running Windows XP with Internet Explorer
8. (http://code.google.com/intl/sv/apis/gears/tutorial.html)

Depending on how I visit the site, I get connection errors. Here's
what happens:

1) I visit my page by typing "iexplore http://mysite" into Start->Run
and click OK
2) Click Capture.
Now it says that "The documents are now available offline."
3) Shut down my web browser
4) Disable my network connection
5) I visit my page again by typing "iexplore http://mysite" into start-
>Run and click OK
Now I get an error message saying "Internet Explorer cannot display
the web page. What you can try: Diagnose Connection Problems". The
error page also says that maybe the problem has occured because the
internet connectivity has been lost, the DNS is not reachable and so
on. In other words, standard IE message.
6) I place my cursor into the web browsers URL field and press enter.
Now the error message disappears and the offline page is shown.

If I reproduce this problem, but type
http://mysite
rather than
iexplore http://mysite
into the start->Run field, it all works fine - I get to see the page.

Can someone explain this behavior? Why do I get a connection error
when starting Internet Explorer with "iexplore http://mysite"?

go_offline.html is on your machine? or is on a hosted service?
