Bug? Google Gears fails to install on Ubuntu

Installing add-on to Firefox yields an error message:

Incompatible extension

"Google Gears" could not be installed because it is not compatible
with your Firefox build type (Linux_x86-gcc3). Please contact the
author of this item about the problem.

My Firefox is: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.13)
Gecko/20101206 Firefox/3.6.13
I have Ubuntu 10.04.1 (lucid) LTS on Asus EEE PC 1000H

I'll provide more information if you tell me what you need :)

maybe I've found the solution here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/24429/how-to-install-gears-in-firefox
using their .xpi (http://gears64.org/files/build/0.5.34.0/3417/gears-
linux-opt-0.5.34.0.xpi)
