Dear Bike Advocates,
You can sit in on this forum for $5 (more if you want to buy lunch) at the Baker Center on High Street. Or listen on KLCC next Monday evening at 6:30 p.m.--but it's better if you can be there in person, so you can get somebody to ask any questions you want to raise.
Sue
PS But no, I have to work, so I won't be there myself.

Subject: [BEST-Boards] NOTICE: City Club 6/29 - Transportation Today & Tomorrow: What changes are in store?
To: BEST Boards of Directors & Advisors <
boa...@best-oregon.org>
Dear BEST directors and advisors,
Please attend BEST's public forum this month with the City Club of Eugene:
"Transportation Today & Tomorrow: What changes are in store?"
Friday, June 29th
Noon - 1:15 pm
UO Baker Downtown Center, 10th & High
In the summer of 1926, several thousand performers gathered at Hayward Field for the world premiere performance of “Klatawa: A Pageant of Transportation.” The occasion of Klatawa — from the Chinook word for “to travel” or “to go” — was the joining of eastern and western Oregon with a southern Pacific rail line between Klamath Falls and Eugene. A year later, the last of Eugene’s trolley-cars ceased running. About this time, the Ford Motor Company replaced its Model T with the Model A, the best-selling car of its time.
Today, cars are hybrid, electric or even self-driving. Ride-hailing services such as Lyft and Uber are supplementing traditional taxicabs. People are using bus rapid transit to get places faster. Others walk or bicycle for improved health. To learn what changes are in store for transportation locally, we are joined by four local experts.
Lindsey Hayward, general manager of PeaceHealth Rides, will speak about Eugene’s new bike share system, a partnership with the City of Eugene, LTD and the University of Oregon.
Edward McGlone, director of public affairs for Lane Transit District, will speak about Transit Tomorrow, LTD’s new effort to redesign our transit system to match our communities values.
Marc Schlossberg, co-founder of the Sustainable Cities Initiative at the UO, will speak about Urbanism Next, a multi-disciplinary effort to understand what is next for our cities.
Joshua Skov, president of Better Eugene-Springfield Transportation, will coordinate the speakers, address why Uber/Lyft declined to participate at the beginning of the program. He will also speak about ways the public can help shape our transportation options today and tomorrow.
This program was organized by BEST's NextGen Mobility Subcommittee: Jon Belcher (also with the City Club), Josh Skov, Kevin Gilbride and me.
Rob
P.S. Recall that BEST's bimonthly forums are opportunities for board members to socialize and for the general public to engage in a topic of interest. Past forums have included:
- April 2018: "Lyft & Uber: What, Why and for Whom?" @ Claim 52 Kitchen
- February 2018: "Community Forum & Housing Exhibit" w/ Better Housing Together @ UO EMU Ballroom
- December 2017: "Future of Transit" @ Falling Sky Deli
- October 2017: "Vision Zero" @ McMenamins North Bank
