Myproblem is, that I do want to create a .desktop file for Technic Launcher, which is an alternative launcher for Minecraft. It comes in the form of a .jar file and I want to create a menu entry for it. How would I write such a .desktop file?
With Xubuntu you can do this via Configuration manager Dialog and choosing the System -> MIME Editor by editing the entry at application/java-x-archive to the preferred Java Virtual Machine.
Right now this is just a bunch of speculations, the only true information we have is that it logs you in (to the game, nothing was ever said about the site) and that it displays news. All of the other stuff isn't new, like the merchandise, the facebook page, that has all been there before just not on that page but on
minecraft.net. The trivia is also kind of pointless. Why does it matter that it prevents one from opening multiple pages of the news feed? There wasn't a true news feed before so it was never an issue. Let's just wait for the facts. --Flippeh 04:42, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
In January, [a StackOverflow answer]( -minecraft-from-command-line-usename-and-password-as-prefix) indicated that this has been removed for security concerns. Should this page be updated to reflect that? Is anyone still successfully logging in with command-line options?
With the new launcher there is a feature to use JVM Arguments.I'm sure writing a section about this under the new 1.6 launcher would be useful.Of what I know it can allow the player to change the amount of ram allocated to Minecraft.--Nelsonngyn0 05:16, 7 July 2013 (UTC)
While reporting and troubleshooting an inability to log out recently, I discovered that the launcher no longer (as of fourth generation 1.2.1) uses the lastlogin file to look for authentication information. It now depends on whether you have one or more profiles. One profile, and you can log out. The replacement for the lastlogin file appears to be launcher_profiles.json as deleting that file reliably logs out the launcher (unfortunately, by deleting all of the profiles.) Individual profiles can only be deleted by selecting the "Edit Profiles" tab and right-clicking on a profile (Backspace and Delete do not work, and there is no Delete button on the Update Notes tab's Edit Profile dialogue.) I'm going to delete the lastlogin reference after this experience. (I've also noted that lastlogin no longer appears on fresh installations of Minecraft.) When one has a single profile, the launcher does put the login information in launcher_profiles.json (current as of 1.2.2; unknown thereafter.) I'm going to update the main page now that I've actually seen it in action. Featherwinglove 18:52, 3 September 2013 (UTC) Last edited: Featherwinglove (talk) 17:56, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
I think we need to add some information on how to use different directories for different profiles.I'll like to start it here as a "Talk" and then make a summery and put it up on the page. Please leave feedback and tell me if I need to make it more educational/fail-safe.
I've been looking over this page and I've noticed several things about it that should be revised/removed. For example, there is still segregation between the introduction and "1.6 Launcher", which are talking about the same thing. One of our primary goals should be to make the page more organized (ex. Combining the two separate Histories.) I'm also thinking of adding an infobox, something along the lines of this. - Exhelah t - c 19:32, 16 May 2014 (UTC)
I can already do that but everytime I launch another alt on the same profile I get that notice that could cause issues, but I'm using Magic Launcher with the same profile and theres no issues (IM always on Multiplayer servers so it shouldn't affect me, if in singleplayer, I would do Open LAN mode.)
Can this be run on windows 10? I'm asking because there is the windows 10 edition which is MCPE and on the history section on this page it says "added windows 10 support." I don't have windows 10, so I can't find this out on my own. --JimbobsDiamonds64 (talk) 22:04, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
The file I am installing is Minecraft.tar.gz. I have been trying to install Minecraft for a while. I have spent about 72 hours over the course of about a month trying to install it, to no avail. I am hoping that this .tar.gz file is the answer to my problems. I just don't know how to install it since there is no install, configure, or README file.
please forget i said "the exact same problem". yes i am trying to install the launcher. i have already tryed the debian launcher with many different methods and none of them have fully worked. in the file there is a single file named minecraft-launcher. in that file there is a few other files. these are them:
the file named minecraft-launcher is the executable. but does nothing when i try to execute it in file manager or terminal. i am trying to install full minecraft not barebones minecraft pi. i already have that installed and its just not the same as full blown minecraft java.i appreciate the help.
the thing is though, minecraft pi isn't the full version. i downloaded the tarball file from the minecraft website and it is listed under "other linux". i am saying "linux" or "raspbian" because rasbian x is based off of linux. its mainly a mix of linux (i dont know which version, looks like a couple of different versions) and rasbian.
You downloaded the wrong variant. You are trying to execute a binary for the x86-64 (standard PC) architecture. Raspbian X for the Raspberry Pi is ARM. Check @Devon's comment for a link to the correct variant.
Are you trying to install a minecraft server or just the launcher? I believe Minecraft.tar.gz is the launcher. If that's the case, depending on your platform, you might be able to use the debian one at -us/download/alternative which is an automated install.
Im trying to make a custom launcher to Minecraft which will be helping with mods. Problem is that the launcher is packed inside a LZMA archive. I can open that archive with 7-zip but I cannot modify it and I cannot make a identical another one so the bootstrap fails to decompress it. The original file can be found here: .
According to the Minecraft Wiki page for the Launcher,it should be possible to run the Minecraft launcher using username and password prefixes from the command line and go directly to the game instead of through the launcher.
To run Minecraft with Forge (change C:\Users\nov11\AppData\Roaming/.minecraft/to your MineCraft path :) [Just for people who are a bit too lazy to search on Google...]Special thanks to ammarx for his TagAPI_3 (Github) which was used to create this command.Arguments are separated line by line to make it easier to find useful ones.
As of 4/29/2017 the Minecraft launcher for Windows extracts all native files and places them info %APPDATA%\Local\Temprandom folder. That folder is temporary and is deleted once the javaw.exe process finishes (when Minecraft is closed). The location of that temporary folder must be provided in the launch arguments as the value of
Also, the latest launcher (2.0.847) does not show you the launch arguments so if you need to check them yourself you can do so under the Task Manager (simply enable the Command Line tab and expand it) or by using the WMIC utility as explained here.
If you want to make a custom launcher using the command line then good luck, the only way to login to the minecraft jar(IE: the way the launcher does it) is to send a post request to with the username, password, launcher version, and a RSA key. It then parses the pseudo Json, and uses the session token from that to authenticate the jar from the command line with a load of arguments.
when i install minecraft forge or optifine i go to "open with" minecraft and even though i have java edition, bedrock and obviously the launcher installed for minecraft it does not give me an option to "open with" minecraft therefore leaving me clueless as to how im suppose to do so when as far as i know this is what i am suppose to do can anyone help me out with this?
The openspec-* tags are dedicated to supporting issues related to open specifications. You can find open specifications here -us/openspecs/. Since your question does not pertain to one of these specifications, I've removed the openspecs tag.
If you don't see the Minecraft Launcher in the Open With dialog, make sure you have the correct version of Minecraft installed and the launcher configured correctly. You may need to reinstall the launcher or update to the latest version from the official Minecraft website.
This method requires you either have the Minecraft version you wish to install OptiFine on to be installed through the vanilla launcher or to recreate the folder structure somewhere on your system (like /.minecraft/versions/1.18.2/1.18.2.jar).
Now in Prism Launcher edit the instance you wish to install OptiFine on, open the Version tab and click Add to Minecraft.jar, select the extracted OptiFine jarmod (the file ending in _MOD.jar) and confirm.
From OptiFine Version H1_pre2 the instructions for installing OptiFine on Prism Launcher have changed. Make sure to have the version of Minecraft that you wish to install OptiFine on installed through the vanilla launcher.
Go into the Mods tab on the left side and then in the right menu select Download mods, then select CurseForge and search OptiFabric. Once found, click Select mod for download, and then press OK. You may now proceed with adding the .jar file for OptiFine into Prism Launcher.
If there were results shown in the search, your Minecraft version may not be compatible with OptiFabric. In this case, you can either try the Forge method, or choose to wait until support for your Minecraft version is added.
Although it is impossible due to some recent updates, to download RLCraft as a package from forge servers this installation method is rather complicated. As such most people choose one of two alternative services for launching the modpack that are both rather easy.
