This is my reflective journal. I'll add my entries here by replying to this post; whenever possible, I will refer to the teaching points covered in the course and the reflective journal entries written by other students taking the course.

What I have learned:
this part should refer to a teaching point covered in the course including keywords and other information for easy location of the relevant materials

Examples from the course or other sources
I would refer to examples to illustrate the teaching points and reflect on what I have learned

Applying what I have learned
Here I document how the knowledge or skills have been applied or could be used in my project

I may also refer to journal entries of other students with links to the specific Google group posts.

Entry 1 general framework for reflective journal entries by Tom IP

What I have learned:
In the previous lessons, I have leant how to engage in our community by different means such as writing letter to the editor/ other related staekeholders, request information under the code of access to information. Throguh the cases provided by Dr. Wang, we can see that those means do have their functions even though it may take longer time. It is very impressive that some department would respond to Dr. Wang's letter to the Editor and that the department would take some cases more seriously if complaints were sent to the Ombudsman.
The thinking model of six thinking hats is also very useful. It guided my thinking and helped me to investigate different issues more comprehensively. For example, when I draft my proposal and read some newspaper articles, I would identify the facts, solutions, difficulties etc. Moreover, through reading so many pieces of letter to the editor, I understand how to construct a good letter and form sound argument, for example, we have to add a clear thesis statement which could summarise all the main points then conclude with prospects.

I was investigating the problems related to solar-powered lighting along Ng Tung river. I found a 2012 newsletter on this matter https://www.emsd.gov.hk/minisites/voice/en/issue27/p7c.pdf
Then I found this newsletter VoiceLink from Electrical and Mechanical Services Department: https://www.emsd.gov.hk/en/publications/customer_newsletters/  I think we should subscribe this and identify issues that can be further pursued.  The latest issue: https://www.emsd.gov.hk/minisites/voice/en/issue55/index.html

Here is one piece from the latest issue of VoiceLink: Introduction of Information-secured Online Interview System
How can we follow up on this news?
Questions to consider:

1. What can be done with this system?  What problems can be solved?
2. In what ways can the solutions further improved?
3. Contact info is made available for clients interested in adopting the system.  What further information can be requested regarding this invitation?
