I'd like to point out a very interesting thread on the loongson-dev
mailing list about the MIPS port of pdaXrom-ng and its specificities.
pdaXrom (http://www.pdaxrom.org/) is a cross-platform Linux distribution
with own build system. Its targets are PDA and embedded systems. pdaXrom
uses X11 for GUI applications, hence greater versatility, improved
portability and better performance.
The MIPS port has been done by one of the core developers (sashz) of
pdaXrom and will need a few changes to make it run on Gdium. sashz is
actually offering to make a built if we can point out where to find
kernel config, specific patches, and driver for x11 video.
He also explains how to set up the cross compiling environment on Ubuntu
and compile the whole system in about 1.5 hours.
The thread is right here:
http://groups.google.com/group/loongson-dev/browse_thread/thread/587694012042b8e9?hl=en
and I'd love to see what kind of performance we can get with this. So if
anyone has time, a bit of knowledge and passion to do it, please go ahead!
Thanks a lot.
