If you're interested in programming, Google makes a wealth of materials available with over 1,500 videos on emerging development technologies and best practices from the Google Developer YouTube channel

to help you learn. If it's good enough for one of today's most successful technology companies, it's probably good enough for those of us in the Greater Sudbury region :)

On Friday, Nov 16th at 12:00 noon, bring a lunch & a laptop to the J.N. Desmarais Library (room 30-213). We'll take a straw poll at the start to decide what to watch, based on participant interests, but some possibilities include:

* Android development

* Dart programming language

* HTML5 development and Web applications

* Chrome's web developer tools

* Go programming language

* Python programming language

After, we'll talk about what direction(s) we want to take the GDG Sudbury. For example: we could alternate sessions every two weeks, with one introductory sessions on a different new technology followed by a deep dive on one specific technology (Android or HTML5 Web apps).

Result: we had a small but enthusiastic turnout for the first event. Per http://goo.gl/qaDPI we opted to watch an episode of "The App Clinic", to have a fairly light & enjoyable introduction to Android app design considerations.

Our next session will be held in two weeks (November 30th), and we plan to watch and discuss "Advanced design for engineers" for a crash course in the principles of usability and human-computer interaction, with a focus on applying those principles in developing Android applications. Join us!
