Guys,

Thanks to those of you who joined us at our first meeting last month!  We've been a bit behind in reaching out and organizing the next event, so apologies for that.

Firstly, a quick update about the organizers. Anthony, who has been looking around for his next opportunity, has found one with a company on the West Coast (congrats Anthony!). Because of that, he'll not be able to contribute to the organization of the GDG group.  I'll be running with things moving forward, but would certainly welcome help.  Just reply or hit me up on Google+ if you're interested.

I'd like to get the next meeting scheduled soon.  Before that, however, the folks at Startup Weekend have asked us to help them put on a bootcamp in advance of their event coming up on Nov 9th here in Raleigh.  I'm trying to get that scheduled for the week prior to that.. (more info to come on specifics).  If anyone wants to help with that, let me know.  Unless I hear back from others, I was planning to put together a half day intro to Apps Script and Google Apps as a prototyping tool .   If you're interested in helping, or would be willing to give a lecture / lab on other Google technology (App Engine, Android, Chrome etc..) please let me know ASAP.

Following that, I'd like to do another group meeting.  The topic we decided on during the first meet up was a general overview of Google technology.  The idea being that each of us (that are interested to) would give a 5 - 10 minute overview of their favorite Google technology.  I'll be setting up a shared spreadsheet for us to sign up for topics.  I'd like to shoot for Tuesday , November 11th for that meeting.  I'll post it as an event on the G+ page in a few days.

Cheers,
Chris

Chris,

I would love to help out with the group in whatever way I can (finding venues, scheduling, promotion, etc.). Also, I'd be willing to give a lecture on the App Engine Python SDK looking at how it can be leveraged to quickly spin up web applications in preparation for the Startup Weekend folks. My availability is pretty open as long as I have a little notice.

Thanks Luke.  I'm still waiting to hear back from the Startup weekend folks, so I'll let you know what becomes of that. If it happens, it would most-likely need to be the weekend of 11/3 (presumably on the Saturday).  Python / App Engine sounds like a better (more agile) topic for a bootcamp, so it'd be great if you could do that.  If not, I was going to do a similar thing with Apps Script / Gapps.

In terms of helping with the Group, help would be great there as well.  We can provide a venue (here at NeoNova), but need help with promotion and getting folks involved. I'm ridiculously busy at work at the moment, so don't have a lot of time to devote to it.  I can give you access to the G+ page, and the distro list if you want to jump in and help ?  Let me know.

thanks,
Chris

Chris,

I can start planning lesson(s) and exercises for the bootcamp if you let me know what kind of time allotment you'd expect people to sit through. I would say it could easily be divided up into disciplines (Server-side, Front-end, Design, Copy), or even walk through a mock app to give a taste of what is possible.

I'd love to throw my hat in the ring to do G+ page updates and distro list messages. I know there is a great developer culture in the Triangle, and would love to tap into that.

Luke,

Take a look at this doc: http://startupweekend.org/globalsponsors/WelcomeToBootcamp.pdf  It's a guide to the bootcamp events. It has suggested formats for the various lengths. I'd think we'd want to shoot for a half day ?

I'll get you added to the G+ page and the distro.. should I use your luke...@gmail.com address ?

Chris,

Yep, that's the email address to use. I like the look of the four-hour format especially since it will be the weekend prior to Startup Weekend. I could definitely pull together enough content for the 8-hour format though if that is something you think would be beneficial. We would just need someone to facilitate the  "How to Be Successful At Startup Weekend" discussion?

Hey, looks like the November event is now postponed until the Spring.  Gives us more time to think about it.. phew!  I've attended a Startupweekend in the past, and would be comfortable with the "How to be Successful.. " part.

I'll take this as a golden opportunity to volunteer as a co-organizer.

Well, it is too bad it got delayed, but it does have the benefit of giving us more time to prepare, which is good.
