Hi Samdy,

To use this tool:

- First, click on the link http://translate.google.com/toolkit/
- Then login to your google account, you will arrive the page Google translate toolkit
- Click on the tab Upload, then you can create a new translation by uploading a file or by specifying a URL to a web page, a Wikipedia article or a knol.

Thanks,

Seak Leang

Hi everyone,

This could be a chance to bring khmer language to the google translate.
The reason is to fast to prepare it cause it a short time but I think this could be way too.

There are two kind of google translate :
  1. Translate a site it like, when you view some website then google will ask you the permission to translate that page.
  2. Google provide a tool to translate a document.
By the two google will setup khmer language in there tool.

The first was following Seakleang's reply. For the second will be a bit complicated cause we need to do something a lots.
First you may looking for a toolkit site as seakleang have been post (http://translate.google.com/toolkit/docupload?hl=en):
  • Local File is part that you can upload glossary or data definition (Translation memories) this is the required for the Google Translate Document.
  • Web page and Wikipedia is part that you can translate a site wiki or any site
  • Know ( I am not really clear about it)
For the glossary is was a kind of Dictionation you can find more from this link http://translate.google.com/support/toolkit/bin/answer.py?answer=147854
I was starting translate a page of wiki relate to IT (Java Page). I think to do this we require many people too do.

Thanks all and Welcome too any question.

There a reason that Google could not setup khmer language into the google translate because they don't enough
information to translate. Depend on the dictionary is not logic. One way to do is human meaning ask you know that
if that a text from english to khmer or any to khmer there must not follow the dictionary all the time that is the reason
google not put khmer language into their tools. But if you looking  for Google in detail was Google Translate was currently
Training their system about khmer language.

it is a nice initiative for our Khmer Language on the Google Translate. Will you be able to introduce this during BarcamPP4?

That'll be nice topic to share.

How did the barcamp presentation go?  Is there any information on the current status of adding Khmer to Google Translate?

(I found this old thread when looking for information on adding Khmer to google translate)

Hey everyone,  It looks like Google Translate supports Khmer now.  The main problem is there is no documents uploaded including dictionaries, glossaries, translated materials etc for it to use in detecting words.  May I suggest that you get everyone you know to start uploading, translating etc to build a strong database?

I think you might can talk to the Open Institute. They probably have sufficient equipment such as dictionary, spell checker.. or something like that
